A Little Time and a Keyboard: Easter Bunny Breakfast at Whole Foods

Easter Bunny Breakfast at Whole Foods

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Instead of spending a fortune on an Easter brunch, I decided to take my daughter to a much more reasonably priced Easter breakfast at Whole Foods Market in Schaumburg. (I know, it is shocking to call Whole Foods reasonably priced!)

Overall, I liked that the event was very low key.  However, I left expecting a little more from Whole Foods.

The breakfast was held in a separate room, so we were not sitting out with the shoppers.  Since there were at most 10 kids there, everyone had ample time to take pictures with the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny treated each child with a bag full of cookies and jelly beans. Whole Foods provided each family with a picture which was a nice touch. The staff was great and really friendly with the kids!

Whole Foods had a decent spread---scrambled eggs, french toast, asparagus quiche, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, strawberry salad, fruit, fruit, and more fruit. Beverages included coffee, orange juice, and water. The food was served buffet style.

I was very impressed by the sheer amount of fruit at the breakfast. I was especially excited that Whole Foods did not skimp on the berries. I am a self-confessed berry addict so I loaded my plate with them---strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries--yum!

Unfortunately, there were several hiccups at the breakfast.  First, the food took awhile to come out. Not a good idea with kids! My daughter seemed like a broken record, asking over and over again, "When are we going to eat?"

Also, the potatoes were not cooked all the way through. I am sure that we have all had our own issues with cooking potatoes, but I would think that Whole Foods would have it down! Also, several of my daughter's strawberries were pretty brown--unappetizing!

While we did have some issues with the food, the French toast and quiche were great.  I don't even want to know the calorie count on those two!

I think that this event is a good option for families with young children. Since it is so relaxed, you can take your time getting pictures with the Easter Bunny.  Also, since space is very limited, there is not a huge rush to the buffet.  Since this cost is low, if you have to leave due to a tantrum, etc., it doesn't hit your wallet too badly. The breakfast cost us $18--$12 for me and $6 for my daughter.  Not bad!

My daughter's belief in the Easter Bunny is waning. At one point, she told me that mommy buys the things for her basket. Of course, she quickly changed her mind and said that the Easter Bunny brings her a basket. I think she knows that there is no Easter Bunny but is afraid that if she confesses to it, she will not get a basket. We will see what happens at Christmas......
