Wednesday Weekend Windup

Holiday weeks can be nice because they are short! The hard part--getting your child motivated for school after having Monday off! My daughter just does not seem to be able to get into the swing of things this week. At least there are only two more mornings until the weekend!

This weekend seems to be shaping up into another busy weekend with plenty to do. Here are some cool things that we have found:

Elk Grove Village will be having a Touch-a-truck event on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 10:00AM-12:00PM. The event is free and will be located in the parking lot for Pirate's Cove.  It looks like Pirate's Cove will also have post season hours Saturday, so check out their website for admission information and prices in case you would like to make it a day.

There will be a story time at Barbara's Book Market in the Glen Town Center on Saturday at 10:30 AM. The event is appropriate for children 2-6. The theme is Painting, Pasta, and Pollack and will also feature a craft from Make-a-Messterpiece. The event is free!

The Morton Arboretum is having a Honey Bee Festival this weekend. There will be all sorts of fun in the Children's Garden from 11:00AM-4:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. Kids can learn the bee dance, make a bee mask, work on other crafts, and talk to local beekeepers. These events are free with admission to the Arboretum. Also, there will be Honeybee Hikes throughout the weekend which will teach families about honeybees, their favorite flowers, and how they make honey. You will need to register for the hikes and they cost $5 for members and $6 for non-members (in addition to admission). There are other activities centered around this event starting September 6, so take a minute to look at the website if you are intrigued.

Graue Mill and Museum in Oak Brook will be holding a Cornfest on Sunday from 11:30AM-4:00PM. There will be BBQ, roasted corn on the cob, taffy apples, and homemade pie. There will be all sorts of activities. General admission is free and there will be tickets to purchase for food and activities.

Motoring Around the Museum will be held at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum on Sunday from 11:00AM-3:00PM. It sounds like it will be a cool event with all sorts of cars. There will also be food vendors and a DJ. Admission is free and cars have a $10 entry fee.

The Family Festival at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights will be held on Sunday from 11:30AM-5:00PM. There will be food, entertainment, craft booths, a children's book sale and activities for all ages. Admission is free!

The Monarch Festival in Waukegan will also be held on Sunday 1:00PM-5:00PM. There will be educational booths, crafts, performances, food, and vendors. Admission is free!
