Wednesday Weekend Windup

First, as you all know, there is an absolute ton of activities this weekend as we march like Frankenstein towards All Hallows' Eve. I am going to list some of the things that interest us in the area. However, there are tons of things out there. Some strategies for searching for fun activities in your area--check with park districts, libraries, YMCAs, and malls. Also, check local newspapers because many of them have events sections.

On Friday, it is Trunk-or-Treat time in Arlington Heights. Trunk-or-Treat will be in the Public Works building from 6:30PM-8:30PM. We went last year and loved seeing how the cars are decorated. Plus, there is more to do than Trick-or-Treat--there is an inflatable, crafts, and a Mad Science demonstration. If you pre-register, the event is $5 per child, $10 at the door. I recommend pre-registering because the event is popular and is  filling up fast. You can find more info here.

Mariano's will be having a Halloween Trick-or-Treating Event around the store from 10AM-2PM on Saturday. There will also be a one day coloring contest.

Nibbles Play Cafe will be having Halloween Festivities with Skittles and Hot Sauce on Saturday from 11:00AM-12:00PM. Here is some more info: "Wear your costumes and be prepared for good Halloween Fun! DJ Skittles and her side kick Hot Sauce are coming to get the kids dancing and playing! Regular Admission applies - membership and admission cards will be
honored for this event.  Free Halloween Cupcake with purchase of a Kid's Meal!"

There will be an Arbooretum Day at the Arboretum Shops in South Barrington Saturday from 11:00AM-1:00PM. The free event will feature a complimentary pumpkin patch, hayrides, a petting zoo, and more. We love the Arboretum Shops because they are pretty low key but give a pleasant place to walk around.

On Saturday, Deer Park Town Center will be having a spooktackular Fall Festival from 12:00PM-4:00PM. Kids will be able to Trick-or-Treat from stores with Jack-o-Lanterns on their doors (while supplies last). Additionally, they can get a bag to collect goodies from Brilliant Sky. Fun will also include a dog costume contest, Monster Mash, and a stilt walker. **Please note that normally, masks are not permitted at Deer Park. However, they are permitted for children 12 and under when accompanied by a parent during Fall Fest and Trick-or-Treating.

Whole Foods Market in Palatine will be having a crafting event on Saturday from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Kids can make tote bags and pumpkin friends. They also can dip caramel apples and get something cool painted on their faces. The event is free! (I just love free crafts!!!)

Northbrook Court is having a Halloween Party from 1PM-3PM on Saturday. There will be a costume parade and party, a group performance to Thriller, and more fun at this free event. The event will be located at the lower level near Macy's.

On Saturday or Sunday, kids can take a gander through the Un-haunted Forest at the River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook. Kids can hike through the forest in their Halloween costumes and receive a special treat. The event is from 1:30PM - 2:30PM on Saturday and Sunday and costs $1 per child. You do need to register for the event, so call 847-824-8360 for details.

Whole Foods in Northbrook will be having a Extreme Trick-or-Treating Event Sunday from 12PM-2:30PM. Kids will receive a special bag for trick-or-treating around the store. There also will be face painting, food tasting, funny photos, and more. The event is free!

Trick-or-Treat downtown Naperville on Sunday from 12:00PM-3:00PM. There will be a trolley to transport your costumed kids and you! There is a list of participating businesses. I love downtown Naperville because there are so many shops and restaurants. Plus, you can always enjoy the Riverwalk!

On Sunday, the North Suburban YMCA in Northbrook will be having its Halloween Party from 2PM-6PM. Admission is free for members and $10 per family for nonmembers. There will be bouncy houses, haunted houses, crafts, obstacle courses, costume contests, trick-or-treating, and more. Families with children with special needs can get exclusive early access from 1:00PM-2:00PM.

Also, don't forget to make a stop at a pumpkin farm this weekend. Most close shop by the 31st!

Have a great Halloweeny weekend!
