Wednesday Weekend Windup

We are totally in Winter Break mode. Slow, easy mornings. Fun activities. Working on some long, overdue projects. I am glad that Christmas happened at the beginning of break because we have plenty of time to do a lot before my daughter goes back to school!

Even though we are trying to kick it this week, there are still a bunch of fun activities going on!

Thursday, December 27

Glenview has a number of events going on now through January 6, 2013 in conjunction with their Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center. There are public skate sessions with characters (Mickey, Sponge Bob, Frosty & more), hockey workshops, a family New Year's party and more! Be sure to check the schedule for events and costs.

Mt. Prospect will have its Winter Wonderland Swimfest at the RecPlex on Thursday from 1:30PM-3:00PM. There will be water games and a craft. Participants will be invited to stay for the open swim after. The event costs $5 per resident, $7 per nonresident.

Friday, December 28

There will be a Creatively Caring Make 2--1 for you and 1 for me--event at Nibbles Play Cafe at 9:30AM. The event will be helping Project Linus which makes fleece blankets for kids who have been traumatized, seriously ill, or in need. Here is some more info about this great event: "Kids will also make fun creations using fleece scraps from Project Linus, and one hospitalized children. All activities plus admission to Nibbles Play Café is FREE today with your donation of fleece fabric in child friendly designs for Project Linus. Fleece must be 2 or more yards and new. Project Linus has requested 'older' prints for the older children."

Saturday, December 29

Orbit Skate Center in Palatine will be having its drop in class for beginning skaters. I took my daughter to this class when she first started skating and it really helped her gain confidence. The class will be from 12PM-1PM and costs $3.50 for participant including the skate rental. If your child would like to stay for the 1PM-4PM free skate session, the class combined with the free skate costs $7.

Monday, December 31

The Sport Center in Schaumburg will be holding the Itsy Bitsy New Year's Eve for 1 to 6-year-olds from 10AM-12PM. There will be inflatables, ride on toys, and other activities. There will be a balloon drop at 12PM. The event costs $8 for residents and $12 for nonresidents.

Nibbles Play Cafe will be holding their Annual New Year's Eve Party. There will be food, fun, and a balloon drop at 12PM. The event starts at 10AM and costs $12 per person ($8 for additional children after 1st) if you register ahead of time. The event costs $15 pp at the door ($10 addt'l child after 1st). However, if you did not preregister, you will want to call to verify availability because this event fills up! I have attended this event before and my daughter loved it!

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library will be having an Almost New Year's Party from 11:00AM-12:00PM. There will be crafts, activities, and a special toast. The event is for 4- to 6-year-olds. You need to register at
