Happy Wednesday, everyone! I cannot believe how warm it is for a January day in Chicago. I am definitely enjoying the sun coming through my window as I type this. Looking ahead at this weekend, there are a lot of festivals going on. What a great way to enjoy the winter!

They Whine, We Wine will be at Nibbles Play Cafe starting at 3:30PM. This event is a happy hour for moms! Guests will enjoy the comedy of Nili Yelin while enjoying a wine and appetizer buffet. The cost is $20 if you register ahead and $25 at the door. You can register at http://nibblesplaycafe.com/. Please call for availability the day of. Kids are welcome! This sounds like a fun event and a great way to unwind!
Saturday, January 12
It is Winter Carnival time in Northbrook from 11AM-1:30PM at Meadowhill Park. The free event will include carriage rides, dog sled demonstrations, a snowshoe obstacle course and more.
Morris the Magic Man! will be at the Mount Prospect Public Library from 11:00AM-11:45AM. To attend this event, please register at www.mppl.org. Mount Prospect Library Super Saturday events are free and great for the kids, so I encourage you to check them out!
I love when Whole Foods Market has a tasting event. You get to try so many new things and learn useful tidbits. This Saturday, Whole Foods in Schaumburg will be holding a Health Starts Here Passport Fair from 12:00PM-3:00PM. Grab an HSH passport with great information and healthy recipes and taste healthy food in each department. A bonus--you can get your grocery shopping done at the same time!
Highland Park will be holding its Winter Fest at Centennial Ice Arena from 3:30PM-6:00PM on Saturday. The event is free. Kids will be able to bounce in the gymnastics studio and try out ice skating sports with instructors available. There also will be cookie decorating, ice sculpting, a dog sled demonstration, and more.
Sunday, January 13
Volo Bog will be holding its WinterFest from 12PM-4PM. There will be all sorts of fun including kids' nature crafts and guided tours. There will also be readings of nature poetry and stories. Feel free to bring yours to share. You can find out about the parameters on the Friends of Volo Bog website. The suggested donation for the event is $5/adult and $2/child. Also, there will be goodies like hot cocoa and cider for sale.
Spring Valley will be holding a Who Goes There? event. From 12PM-4:00PM, families can visit the Merkle Cabin in Schaumburg to learn about reading tracks. There will be games and activities to learn about decoding tracks. The event is free!
