Wednesday Weekend Windup

Today is really confusing me. It is sunny out and we have a flock of birds in our yard.  However, it is f-r-i-g-i-d. My daughter has been upset with the groundhog the past couple days. She doesn't understand why it is soooooo cold when the groundhog told us that spring is around the corner. The nerve! At least there is some fun to be had this weekend. Here are the events that caught our eyes:

Saturday, February 23

There is a Niles Library Storywalk at Golf Mill Mall. This event actually started Feb. 14 and runs through Feb. 28 (I wish I had found out about it sooner!). Kids can pick up a worksheet at JcPenney or Sears and begin reading.  Once kids complete that form, take them to the Mall Office for a prize. The event is free. So, if you are heading out to the mall, why not give the kiddos a little something to do.

The Freeze Competition will be held at the Glenview Ice Center in Glenview from 8AM-8PM. It is a great opportunity for kids to watch figure skaters compete. The event is free. For more details, check the schedule.

There will be a Winter Block Party at the Foglia YMCA in Lake Zurich from 10:30AM-12:30PM. It will be an opportunity to check out the rock climbing wall, bouncy house, and more. Whole Foods will be on hand with cooking classes, hot cocoa, and more, free!

Whole Foods Market Northbrook will be holding the Whole Planet Foundation Fair  from 12:00PM-4:00PM. For a small donation to the Foundation you get to tie-dye a shirt, make crafts, play games, and/or have your face painted

Sunday, February 24

Your family can construct their own birdhouse at the This Old Birdhouse Event at the Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington. The event runs from 1:00PM-2:00PM. There is a $5 donation. You can register by calling 847-381-6592. The plans and placement suggestions will be provided.

The River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook will be having a  Sap's Rising event from 1:30PM-2:30PM. Take a walk through the forest and learn about maple tapping. The event is free!

**Also, don't forget to visit the Wonderful Wizard of Oz Exhibit at the Kohl Children's Museum. The exhibit will be at the museum through April 15, 2013. Admission to the museum is $9.50 pp and $8.50 for grandparents or seniors (55+). There is a military discount (buy one get one free). Check the museum's website for more details and times. Please see our previous post for more about what we like at the museum. (It is perfect for the little ones during the winter!)

***Be sure to check out our running list of activities. I am trying to add things as I find them. You can find our list here.
