Even though there are still patches of snow on the ground and the temperature is not sure if it wants to stay above 30, it is time to paint the town green, tap some maples and find some pastel eggs! There are plenty of St. Patrick's Day Celebrations, Maple Tapping Celebrations, and even some Easter events going on this weekend. We have also decided to make this weekend our adopted Australian Shepherd's birthday, so we will be quite busy!
Here are some of the weekend events that caught our attention:
Friday, March 15
March 15-17 Barrington will be having some St. Patty's Day fun with the Barrington Celtic Fest. The festivities will be going on at the Festival Tent, McGonical's Pub, and The Annex. There will be Irish dancers, music, bagpipes, and more. Entrance to the festival tent is $10 with part of the proceeds going to Relay for Life. There is a lot in conjunction with this event, so check the Barrington Celtic Fest website for more details and the schedule.
Also, the Mt. Prospect Public Library will be having a free Create-a-Craft: St. Paddy's Day event from 11:30AM-5:00PM. Kids can create some fun St. Patrick's Day crafts. Children 9 and under must be accompanied by adult.
Saturday, March 16
Palatine will be joining the St. Patrick's Day fun with "Paint the Town Green" from 8AM-1PM. There will be an Irish Market with Irish music and a parade at 11AM. The event will be outside Durty Nellie's. Check the website for additional information.
The Sugar Bush Fair will be happening at the Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg on March 16 & 17. The event will run from 9AM-12PM each day and will include re-creations of
pioneer and Native American sugar camps, demonstrations, puppets and more. Admission is free. There will be a pancake breakfast for $4/$5. We always love events at the Spring Valley Nature Center! I know it will be a little chilly on Saturday, but, if you are up to it, take a walk around. The preserve is pretty and peaceful.
There will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the Rec Plex in Mt. Prospect. The event starts at 9:30AM and is broken down into different times for different age groups. The event costs $5 per child and is indoors. (Since it will be chilly, this is a nice Easter egg hunt option) You must register, so check the website.
If you are looking for a little theater this weekend, the Northbrook Theater will be having a production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr . Shows at 12:30PM and 4:00PM both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets $10. You can order them online from box office.
Sunday, March 17
River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook will be having its Maple Syrup Celebration from 11AM-3PM. During the free event, learn how maple syrup is made.
The McNulty Irish Dancers will be at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library from 2:00PM-3:00PM. You can register for the event here.
There is so much to do this weekend! Plus, I am sure that many of you are having some of your own St. Patrick's Day celebrations of your own. A fun weekend ahead!
