We have really been having some interesting storms today! I have actually been enjoying them a little bit. Fortunately, I am able to remain cooped up inside this afternoon. So, it is the perfect weather to sit down with a book and some tea. Ok, so a computer and some tea.
Earth Day is coming up, so there are a bunch of themed events this weekend. Check out some of the events in the area that interest us:
Saturday, April 20
Northbrook's Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration will be held at the Village Green. Starting at 8:30AM volunteers will gather and begin clean up projects. From 9:30AM-1:30PM there will be exhibits, food, entertainment. The event is free!
The Book Market in the Glen Town Center will be hosting a performance of The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle from 11:30AM-12:30PM. A New York theatre company will be performing. The event is free but you will need to register.
Des Plaines is holding an Earth Day Youth Fair at the Cumberland Terrace Fieldhouse from 1PM-4PM. You can make a recycled craft, plant a bean. The first 150 participants will receive a free 6" evergreen. The event is free!
There will be a Viking Ship Open House in Geneva held by the Friends of the Viking Ship from 1PM-4PM. The will be tours of a Viking Ship that was at the World's Fair. (Last tour is at 3:30PM) Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per teen, $1 per child, and free for those under 4! This event is an experience that you do not have every day, so some of the kids will probably really love it! (Ok, and the parents, too!)
April 20-22 Pottery Barn kids will have an Earth Day Celebration. Kids will receive free seeds to plant at home while supplies last. Also, the proceeds from the sale of certain lunch products will go to Trees for the Future.
Sunday, April 21
Join in the Earth Day Celebration at Emily Oaks in Skokie from 12:00PM-4:00PM. You will be able to enjoy outdoor activities like campfire, birding, and exploring. The free event is sponsored by Whole Foods Market Sauganash.
There will be an EcoFest at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle from 11:00AM-3:00PM. Come talk to experts from EcoMyths about common ecological misconceptions. Free with general admission ($12 per adult, $11 per senior, $9 per child, under 2 free). Why not visit the Children's Garden or Tree House Tales while you are there? **event canceled, Arboretum is closed through Sunday
Recycle the Earth Day will be held at the Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington from 12:00PM-4:00PM. See how nature recycles and make paper. The event is free and you can couple it with a hike! (Don't forget to grab an adventure backpack for your hike!)
There will be a Mother's Day Celebration by Yapa Events! at Bloom Salon in Arlington Heights from 1:00PM-3:00PM. This packed event will include manicures, stress relieving activities, hair braiding, tea, snacks, and a craft. The event costs $25 per mother/daughter pair. You must register.
