Wednesday Weekend Windup {Up and Away!}

Many of the schools in the area are back in session. However, it is still summer, so there is a ton of fun to be had! Plus, I am sure that homework will be light if existent at all this weekend, so here are some ideas for activities! (My daughter's normal extracurricular activities are on hiatus the next couple of weeks, so I personally will be looking for stuff to do!)

Friday, August 23

The Taste of Highland Park and Port Clinton Art Festival will be held in Port Clinton Square in Highland Park. The huge festival will include art, music and food. Admission is free. Check schedule for more info. (I was pretty impressed that many of the food options are listed directly on the website.)

Even though this is a little further afield than we usually list, The Grill Games in Kenosha on Friday and Saturday seems pretty intriguing. The festival runs Friday 3PM-11PM and Saturday 10AM-11PM. The event will include grilling competitions, family fun, carnival rides, food, arts and crafts fair and street car rides. Admission is free. The festival is on the lakefront. Beautiful! See the website for more details and a schedule. There is a lot to this festival, so you will definitely want to check out the web page!

Palatine Street Fest will be held in Downtown Palatine this weekend. The event will run Friday 5PM-12AM, Saturday 11AM-12AM and Sunday 11AM-8PM. The festivities will include music, food, kids activities, a pet parade, a cycle fest and more. Admission is free. Wristbands for the kids' activities may be purchased at the Palatine Mariano's. Check the schedule for more specifics.

 Little Mermaid will be visiting Rock N Roll a la Mode in Palatine at 5:00PM. There will be songs and stories. Admission is free but you may want to indulge in a sweet treat during the event!

Saturday, August 24

Bug Fest will be held at Lippold Park and Red Oak Nature Center in Batavia from 9AM-1PM. The event includes bug games, insect encounters, walk from Lippold Park to Red Oak Nature Center looking for bugs and more activities at nature center. There will be snacks for purchase. Admission is free. Red Oak Nature Center has some scenic yet shorter trails. I recommend it! See website for more details.

A Kids Safety Expo will be held at the Frontier Sports Complex in Naperville from 9:30AM-12:30PM. The free expo will include a K-9 demo, free children's IDs, bike safety, touch-a-truck and more.

Health Starts Here: Back to School will be held at Whole Foods Market in Kildeer from 12:00PM-3:00PM. Learn how to put together a healthy lunch box, try some samples and receive a prize. The event is free!

The Color Aloft Hot Air Balloon Festival at Central Park in Grayslake sounds like a lot of fun! The event runs 5PM-9PM and admission is free. My hometown has a hot air balloon festival every year and it is so much fun! I love the beautiful balloons! Be sure to check the schedule. The event will run weather permitting.
