Wednesday Weekend Windup {fall fun!}

With so many fun fall activities around, it is hard to not be in a good mood! I used to not be a fall person. However, over time harvest festivals as well as the vibrant colors of the season have won me over. There are a lot of tempting events this weekend! We are hoping to squeeze some time out of our daughter's schedule to catch some. (The life of eight-year-olds....)

Friday, September 20

Palatine is having a Harvest Moon Bike Ride for those ages 16+. Riders will have a 7.5 mile ride beginning at 6:30PM. Each rider will receive a raffle ticket and glow bracelet. Your own helmet and light are required. The event costs $5 per resident, $6 per nonresident. You must register to participate.

Friday also marks the start of Oktoberfest in Palatine. The event will be held across the tracks from the Palatine Train Station. Family Day will be held on Saturday 12PM-3:30PM with family entertainment and activities. Each day, the event will include music and food. (Bauer's will have their pretzels. Yum!) Oktoberfest will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See schedule. Admission is free!

Saturday, September 21 

The Farm Heritage Festival will be held at Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda from 9AM-4PM. See vintage tractors, cars, engines and farm machinery. There also will be sheep herding demonstrations, wagon rides, food, music and more. Admission is $10 per adult, $5 per child. There are discounts if you purchase tickets online or for whole weekend.

Naper Settlement in Naperville will have a  Harvest Pow Wow from 11AM-10PM on Saturday and  11AM-5PM on Sunday. The event will include cultural demonstrations, kids games and crafts, dancing and music. Check schedule. Admission costs $10 per adult, $7 per senior or child. Children under 3 are free.

Global Cardboard Challenge: Building Day at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library will be held Saturday 4:00PM-5:00PM. Build at home or library. This is part of National Day of Play (celebrated by the library on Oct. 5). Drop in to this free event!

There will be a Harvest Bonfire at Wagner Farm in Glenview from 6PM-8PM. The event will include cider, s'mores and hot dogs. Admission is $5 pp, kids 2 and under free, The hot dogs will be sold at an additional cost.

The Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg will also have a bonfire on Saturday. The Harvest Moon Bonfire will run from 6:30PM-8:30PM. You will be able to roast hot dogs and marshmallows and take a lantern lit tour of the farm. The event costs $7 pp, 3 and under free!

Sunday, September 22

The Arlington Heights Historical Museum will be holding the Plein Air Paint Out and Motoring Car Show from 11AM-3PM.Come watch outside painting and see cool cars. There will also be a DJ, family activities and food vendors. Admission is free. See website if you would like to register a car.

Join Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington for the Fabulous Fall Forest from 1PM-2PM. Learn to identify leaves by playing bingo and create leaf art. Admission is free! We love fall walks through the Crabtree Nature Center!

Pumpkin festivals are starting all over the place including some of our favorites----Stade's, Goebbert's and Didier's. Sometimes, it is better to get these in early in the season because it can be pretty chilly later in October.
