Wednesday Weekend Windup {Happy Thanksgiving and Hanukkah!!!}



Woo Hoo! The holiday season is here! This week we get to celebrate both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah! It will be a special week indeed! We hope that you are able to spend some extra time with friends and family!

There are some fun events in our area the next few days, so I wanted to mention some that grabbed our interest:

Friday, November 29

Illumination at the Morton Arboretum will run through January 4th. The new interactive light show will begin each evening at 4:30PM with the last entry at 8:30PM. (Please note that the event is closed November 28, December 2, 9, 16, 24, 25). Walk along a trail and hug a tree to see it glow, sing to another and see it light up and discover other fun ways to interact with trees! Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 per child (2-17) or $10 per adult member and $5 per member child. Tickets include daily admission to Arboretum. You can order tickets online.

Chanukah Family Funland will be at the Buffalo Grove Town Center November 27-December 1. The event includes crafts, a carnival, music, a cartoonist, raffles and more. You also will have the chance to purchase gifts. Please note that November 30 is a game night for adults only. Check the website for ticket prices and times.


Norton's U.S.A. in Barrington is hosting a Holiday Open House November 29-December 1. Enjoy warm cider and tasty samples while perusing glorious made in USA holiday decor. Be sure to mention discount for 15% off of purchase or 20% off of one item. The event runs Fri. & Sat. 10AM-5PM and Sun. 12PM-4PM.


Join Arlington Heights for the annual tree lighting at North School Park from 4:45PM-5:45PM. North School Park has a number of whimsical light displays that are lit up during this event. There also will be carols. The event is free!

Enjoy the Cosley Zoo  Festival of Lights inWheaton  daily 3PM-9PM through December 30. Twinkling light displays will sparkle throughout zoo. There will also be a tree sale through December 24. Purchase special holiday gifts in the gift store. Admission is free. The zoo is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day. We have been to this event before and have found it perfect for the really little ones!

Downtown Downer's Grove will be holding its Gingerbread Festival through December 1. Join a Gingerbread Man Hunt, visit Santa in a Gingerbread House, enjoy a tree lighting, check out the gingerbread house contest and more. Check website for schedule. The event is free!

Park Ridge is holding its Winter Fest from 6:00PM-9:00PM. The event includes luminaries, a fire station visit, a library open house with treats, Santa visit, carolers and more for free! 

Saturday, November 30 

Pick up some gifts at the Spring Valley Holiday Bazaar at the Vera Meineke Nature Center in Schaumburg. The event runs 10AM-4PM Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free! 

Visit Crystal Lake for the Festival of Lights Parade starting at 7PM. Try to get there early for a good spot! Check website for more information! The parade is free!

 Sunday, December 1

Head to Naperville for the Little Friends: Holiday Parade of Light. The parade starts at 5:00PM but crowd starts at 3:45PM. There will be music before the parade. The parade is free! 

Be part of the Toys for Tots Giveaway by Eggsperience Pancake & Cafe. Dine in any Eggsperience Pancake & Cafe and they will donate a toy in your honor. If you bring in a new toy to donate, you will get a free kids meal or side!
