Last weekend, we enjoyed fall colors as we drove to New Orleans. After seeing fall splendor in all of its glory, it is hard to believe that sleigh bells are already heralding the arrival of the famed man in the red suit. Yes, Santa is already arriving in Chicago! I guess he just wants a jump on the holiday season! Instead of wallowing in a mountain of leaves, I am choosing to enjoy all of the fun ahead!

Thursday, November 7
One of our favorite events of the year is the Old Fashioned Holiday Craft Faire at The Grove in Glenview. The large craft fair will be this weekend, November 7-10, as well as next weekend. The hours of the fair are Thursday & Friday 10AM-8PM, Saturday & Sunday 10AM-5PM. When I say huge, I mean huge! The event includes 6 buildings full of crafts and special food items. Admission to the event is $5 per adult, $1 per child. Parking is free. This is a great place to find one-of-a-kind gifts as well as support local artisans.
Friday, November 8
Santa's Arrival and Fireworks Extravaganza will be lighting up Deer Park Center in Kildeer. The event runs from 6PM-8:30PM. Santa will arrive to turn on the lights. There will also be a marching band and fireworks. Veterans will be honored. The event is free!
Head to Naperville for Holiday Grand Illumination & Gingerbread Sculptures, The free event will be held Downtown starting at 6PM. Kids will get bags and prizes at each sculpture! Naperville is such a fun place to walk around, why not add dinner to the evening?
Feeling like enjoying a little theater? Cutting Hall in Palatine will have performances of Disney's Mulan Jr. at 7PM on Friday and 11AM on Saturday. Tickets are $7 per person. You can order tickets online.
Saturday, November 9
Our Saviour's Church in Arlington Heights will be having a Fair Trade Global Market from 9AM-2PM. We have attended this fair before and they always have a splendid amount of wonderful handicrafts. Great for the holidays!
Be sure to take your kids to have fun in the outdoors during No Child Left Inside Family Fun Day at the Sand Ridge Nature Center in South Holland from 10AM-2PM. Bring the kids for fun with naturalists, a scavenger hunt, an obstacle course and more. The event is free!
The Northbrook Theater will have a performance of Pinkalicious on Saturday. Choose from 10AM and 1PM shows. Tickets are $12. You will need to purchase tickets online.
Looking for some fun with pets? The Chicago Pet Show will be held at the Kane County Fair Grounds in St. Charles both Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-5PM. The fun will include demonstrations, presentations, vendors and more. Learn how to make a difference in your pet's life. Admission costs $6 per adult ticket with advance purchase ($7 at door), $3 of each ticket benefits a rescue. Children under 18 are free. You can bring a pet with advanced registration and proof of rabies vaccination. You can purchase tickets online.
Have some winter fun at Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee with Santa's Wonderland Preview Night this weekend. Santa arrives at 5PM! Enjoy free crafts from 6PM-8PM,tree lighting, carolers, raffles and more! The event is free!
Sunday. November 10
Work on your passport without leaving Chicagoland! Enjoy Celebrating Italy! at Francesca's Tavola, in Arlington Heights from 2PM-4PM. During this first event of a series, learn about Italy, make a pizza, enjoy an Italian dessert and learn some Italian. The program is geared for childen 5-10 with a parent/grandparent/caregiver. Admission is $15 per person. This is a part of Yapa Events new Passport Series. You will need to register.
