Looking at the activity schedule for this weekend makes my head spin! There are actually a few times that I am supposed to be in three different places at once! The good news is that there is so much winter fun this weekend. Do you have a favorite holiday event? There are so many to choose from--it is hard to pick one!
Here are some ideas for fun this weekend!
Thursday, December 5
at the Morton Arboretum will run through January 4th. The
new interactive light show will begin each evening at 4:30PM with the
last entry at 8:30PM. (Please note that the event
is closed November 28, December 2, 9, 16, 24, 25). Walk along a trail
hug a tree to see it glow, sing to another and see it light up and
other fun ways to interact with trees! Tickets are $15 per adult, $10
per child (2-17)
or $10 per adult member and $5 per member child. Tickets include daily
admission to Arboretum. You can order tickets online.
Enjoy the Cosley Zoo Festival of Lights in Wheaton daily 3PM-9PM through December 30. Twinkling light displays will sparkle throughout zoo. There will also be a tree
sale through December 24. Purchase special holiday gifts in the gift store. Admission is free. The zoo is closed
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day. We have been to this event before and have found it perfect for the really little ones! On Saturday, there will also be a craft corner event from 10AM-2PM with a suggested family donation of $5. Make some crafts, have cookies and visit with Santa. You can have a picture with Santa printed for $3.
Head over to Eggsperience Pancake & Cafe during their Toys for Tots Giveaway event through December 15. Dine in any Eggsperience Pancake &
Cafe and they will donate a toy in your honor. If you bring in a new
toy to donate, you will get a free kids meal or a side!
On December 5 & 7 head to Northbrook Court for the Santa's Elf Academy from 11AM-2PM. The free event includes arts & crafts, toy making, gifts and a certificate of completion!
Friday, December 6
The Lamb's Farm Annual Holiday Lights Craft & Gift Fair will be held at the Arlington Heights Race Track this Friday through Sunday at various times. There will be jewelry and craft vendors
galore. Admission is $8 per person, $6 per car for parking. There is a coupon on the website.
When you visit Randhurst, check out the Magical Light Show December 6-21. The fun is shown on the Hampton Inn every 30 minutes
from 5PM-8PM. There will be special performances on the weekend--check the website. The event is free!
It's a Wonderful Life!
will be shown at Cutting Hall in Palatine at 7PM. There will be
caroling, a quilt raffle and more. Get free tickets at the Community
Saturday, December 7
Stop by Candy Cane Court
at Berry Yo in Arlington Heights after the Rotary Santa Run from 10AM-11AM. There will be face
painting, balloon art, and games. Santa will arrive after at 12PM and stay until
Visit Norton's U.S.A. and Barrington for the Holiday Tradition including Gingerbread Lane
on Lageschulte St. from 10AM-6PM. The street will be lined with
gingerbread children and candy canes, ride trolley free to Barrington
shopping areas, Chicago Red Hots acapella group will sing at Norton's
U.S.A. at 2PM. The free event will also include cookies and a small gift for the kids! There will be warm cider for all!
The Winter Wonderland Holiday Festival will be held at the Frisbee Senior Center in Des Plaines from 10AM-4PM. There will be kids crafts and entertainment, a holiday bazaar, pictures with Santa and more. The event is free!
Christmas in the Valley will be held at Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg from 12PM-4PM on Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy old time holiday fun. The event costs $2 per person. This is one of our favorites of the season!
Bring your pooch to Pictures with Santa Paws at Heartland Animal Shelter in Wheeling from 12PM-3PM. Have a picture taken for a $5 donation to shelter. There will also be a bake sale.
There will also be Pet Pictures with Santa at Knupper Nursery in Palatine from 1:00PM-3:00PM. Bring your cameras! Donations
to Save-a-Pet will be accepted.
Ride the Polar Express at Blackberry Farm in Aurora Saturday and Sunday from 2PM-6PM. The event costs $5 pp. Ride the train around lake, listen to a reading of Polar Express, enjoy festive activities and visit Santa. There will be cookies, hot chocolate and more!
Need a new puzzle? There will be a Puzzle Exchange
at the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling from 2PM-3PM. Exchange puzzles you
no longer want for "new" ones. Make sure you have all of the pieces!
Enjoy Celebrate the Season: Holiday Festival
at Cantigny Park from 4PM-7PM. There will be a tree lighting, holiday market, live reindeer,
ice carving demonstrations and more. Admission is free. However, there is a parking fee and
minimal charge for some activities.
Sunday, December 8
Visit with Santa at Knupper Nursery in Palatine from 11AM-1PM. Bring your camera for free photos.
Enjoy the Holiday Open House at the Clayton House Museum in Palatine from 1:00PM-4:00PM. The holiday event is free!
