Wednesday Weekend Windup {Maple Tapping and More Fun}



Oh, my! Snow again! Today has been a gem so far. With towns holding back on or just being plain out of salt, slipping and sliding has been joyful. I slipped right through a 3-way stop. Fun times! But, you just have to put your big girl pants on and deal with it, right!

I am enjoying that the days are getting longer. I feel like I am getting so much more done! Spring must be near!

I am sure that many of you are itching to get the kiddos out of the house this weekend. Here are some affordable ideas in the area:

Friday, March 7

Why not let the little ones get some of their energy out at the Elite Soccer Open House and Family Fun Night at  Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights. The Open House is 5:00PM-6:30PM and you must register. The Family Fun Night is from 6:45PM-8:30PM. There is a Juggle-a-Thon at the Fun Night to raise funds for ESCO. Saturday, March 8

Head over to the Renaissance Schaumburg Saturday or Sunday for the Chicagoland Kids Expo & Fun Fair from 9AM-6PM Sat and 10AM-5PM Sun. There will be exhibits, entertainment and more. Admission is $10 per adult, $5 per child 3-12. You can get a coupon online.

Saturday and Sunday also bring the Healthy Children Conference & Expo to the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont from 10AM-6PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun. The fun will include demonstrations, exhibits and learning opportunities. Admission is $8 for advance tickets, $10 at door, kids free!

Have a syrupy sweet time at  Maple Sugaring Days at Naper Settlement in Naperville from 10AM-4PM Sat and 1PM-4PM Sun. See how settlers tapped trees and made syrup. Visit old buildings. Enjoy a maple treat and receive maple syrup recipes. Tickets are $12/adult, $11/seniors, $8 kids 4-12.

Let the kids be chefs at Kids in the Kitchen at Whole Foods Market in Schaumburg from 10AM-11AM. The event is geared towards those 8-12 and is $5 per child. You must register.

Join in the fun during Dave Herzog's Marionettes in Cirque Fantastique at the Mt. Prospect Public Library from 11AM-11:45AM. The event is free but you must register!

Visit Palatine High School for Palatine High School Cupcakes for a Cause from 11AM-2PM. Help raise money for activities for special needs students. $2.00 for admission and a cupcake. There will be kids activities--plus who doesn't like a cupcake?

If you have never been to the Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove, it is a gem! This weekend is the Crossroads Exhibit Grand Opening Saturday from 1PM-4PM. Explore life in Buffalo Grove in the 1900's. The free fun includes food, hands-on activities and giveaways!

Sap's Rising! It is time to tap those trees! Saturday or Sunday, head over to the River Trails Nature Center in Northbrook for Sap's Rising from 1:30PM-2:30PM. Walk through the forest and learn about harvesting maple syrup. The event is free!

Sunday, March 9

Learn about the Jamestown Settlement at Naper Settlement in Naperville from 4PM-5PM. Captain John Smith will talk about how Jamestown was settled. Tickets are $6 per adult, $5 per child in advance, $7 and $6 at the door, reservations are recommended. See above for info about the Maple Sugaring Days event before Captain Smith's visit.
