Wednesday Weekend Wind Up {Are Your Bunnies Ready to Hop?}




While Easter is still a few weeks off, fun activities are already starting to hop around all over the area! Plus, it is finally Spring! Even that the temperatures still may be a little cool, I am happy that we are finally heading in the right direction! This afternoon, I actually have plans to start working on the garden. Amazing, I know! 

Looking for some ideas for this weekend? Here a few that caught our eyes:

Saturday, April 5

Flat Stanley was my favorite book when I was a young child! I am sure that The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley at Northbrook Theater this Saturday will be a delightful show for the kiddos! Show times are 10AM and 1PM,. Tickets are $12 per person. Be sure to order online!

This Saturday and Sunday, The Grove in Glenview will be celebrating The Visionary Life of Dr. John A. Kennicott Exhibit Opening from 10AM-3PM each day. Learn about this fascinating doctor, naturalist and educator. Costumed guides will be giving tours of Kennicott House and School House. There will also be fun hands on activities. The event is free!


Kids will learn about saving during Money & Me at The Book Market in The Glen Town Center from 10:30AM-11:30AM. The fun will include a storytime, a craft and mini-lesson about spending, saving and charity. The free drop-in even is geared towards kids 2-6.

Make a Home for the Birds at the Vera Meineke Nature Center in Schaumburg from 10:30PM-12:00PM. The program is for kids ages 6-12 and costs $7 for residents, $10.50 for non. Be sure to register!

Head over to Wheeling High School for the Incredible Egg Scramble from 10:45AM-11:15AM. Hunt for candy-filled eggs, play games and take a photo with the bunny. This free event is for kids ages 2-6.

Dogs will be clowning around at the Canine Carnival at the Meineke Recreation Center in Schaumburg from 11AM-1PM. Games, costume contest, vendors, agility course and more fun! Dogs must be leashed and you will need to have current shot records. Cost is $2 for residents and $3 for non-residents; $5 for resident dogs and $7 for non-resident dogs.  Call (847) 490-7020 for registration info.

Any dragon fans out there? Celebrate these magical creatures during the Dragon Feathers! With Melikin Puppets show at the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling from 1:30PM-2:30PM. Merlin's puppets tell 3 of his favorite dragon stories. The event is free but limited to 100 participants. Tickets will begin to be distributed 30 minutes before show.

Follow the Spring Bunny Trail at Indian Ridge Park in Northbrook from 2:30PM-4:30PM. Hunt for eggs, enjoy a magic show, play games and visit with the Easter bunny. The event is free. The Easter Bunny will visit 2:45PM-4:00PM. Bring a basket!

Wind down your evening at the Sunset Fire and Picnic on the Prairie at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg from 6PM-8:30PM. Learn how fires are vital to the prairie ecosystem. Bring a picnic. Grilled foods will also be available for purchase. Listen to a short presentation followed by prairie burning. Admission is $12 per family (up to 6), $3 pp. The rain date is April 12.

Sunday, April 6

Join naturalists at the River Trails Nature Center in Northbrook from 1:30PM-2:30PM for the Cold Blooded Crawl. Learn what it is like for native turtles, frogs and snakes to wake up after hibernation and meet some "herps." The event is free!
