Wednesday Weekend Windup: Are We Feeling Spring?


I am having a hard time believing that it is May and the kids will be out of school in a few weeks! I am excited that my daughter will be home and we will be able to create our own summer routine. However, I am just not feeling spring never mind summer because the temperatures have not been the best. We are getting there but rather slowly!

Many of the events this weekend have the Spring theme, so it is time to get in the mood! Here are some picks for this weekend:

Friday, May 9

The whole month, you can check out the Fairy House Garden Exhibit at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens in Valpo, Indiana from 8AM-7PM. Admission is $10 per adult and children 13-17. Admission is $5 per younger child. There also is a railway garden with trains running 10AM-6:30PM. {See below, admission is free on Saturday, May 10.}

Friday and Saturday there will be a Plant Sale at Faith Lutheran Church from 10AM-5PM on Friday and 9AM-4PM on Saturday. There will be a  free Mother's Day Craft 10AM-2PM each day and free infant car seat inspections from 12PM-3PM on Saturday.

Saturday, May 10

Help with the Spring Bird Count at the Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley in Schaumburg from 7AM-5PM. Help with the annual count. You can come for part or all of the day. The event is free.
Get a jump on the Farmers Market season with the Farmers Market in Morton Grove from 8AM-12PM. Besides vendors, there will be live entertainment.

There will be a Native Plant Sale at Independence Grove in Libertyville from 9AM-3PM Saturday and 10AM-3PM Sunday.

Enjoy the Spring Open House at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens in Valpo, Indiana from 10AM-5PM. Admission is free. Visit the fairy and railway garden. There will also be kids crafts, animal experiences and more.

Enjoy The SamaSama Project at the Mt Prospect Public Library from 11AM-11:45AM. The traveling troupe will introduce Filipino culture including music and dancing. The event is free but you must register.

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day at Crabtree Nature Center from 12PM-4PM. Celebrate the return of migratory birds with free activities!

Head over to the Joann's in Arlington Heights for a Make It Take It from 2PM-3PM. Make a mixed media brooch for mom for free! **Check with your local Joann's to see if they have the event as well. I believe most should.**

Support Relay for Life at the Live Auction Cake Sale at Norton's U.S.A. in Barrington. Bake a cake/buy a cake to help this cause. Drop off freshly baked cakes by 12PM for the auction. The auction begins at 3PM. All proceeds go to Barrington Relay for Life.

Check out the Fitness19 Fest in the Fitness19 Parking Lot in Arlington Heights from 3:30PM-7:30PM. There will be music, food, family and fun with free admission!

Sunday, May 11

Go on a Guided Nature Walk for Mother's Day at River Trail Nature Center in Northrbook from 1:30PM-2:30PM. The event is free!
