Wednesday Weekend Windup {Festivals Galore}


What a fun time of year! There are festivals everywhere! So much to enjoy but so hard to choose just one or two! I am not sure if we really have a favorite. Just walking around and enjoying the ambiance is so much fun! Of course, some sun really helps, too.

Here are a few ideas for fun this weekend:

Thursday, June 19

Swedish Days will be adding some extra flare to Geneva through Sunday. There will be tons of kids activities, Swedish activities, vendors and more. There will also be live music, exhibits and a parade on Sunday. Check out the website and don't forget to check out Sweden Vast which will have a bunch of Swedish fun! Free admission but there are fees for carnival rides and some activities.



Combine some history with family time during Family Night Out outside of the First Division Museum in Cantigny Park in Wheaton from 5:30PM-7:30PM. There will be a scavenger hunt, guided walking tour of historic tanks, free admission, $2 parking

Friday, June 20

It is Strawberry Season which means this weekend is Strawberry Fest in Long Grove. Friday through Sunday enjoy strawberry themed foods, music, family activities and more. Admission is $5 pp, $8 per couple if you buy tickets online. Check schedule for more deets.

Want to help set a World Record? Well, you will have your chance if you join the World Largest Swim Lesson at the Chicago Swim School in Arlington Heights from 10AM-10:30AM. {You will want to be there 15 minutes early.} Chicago Swim School along with schools around the world are trying to get in the Guinness Book of World Records. The event is free but you need to register:  847-870-7946.

Enjoy Movie in the Park: Frozen at Recreation Park in Arlington Heights. The fun event runs 6:30PM-10:30PM. Bring a blanket and a chair and pack a picnic. There will be a bouncy house, activities and more. Admission is free. There will be concessions for purchase. The movie starts at 8:30PM.

Saturday, June 21

Learn about bees during Share the Buzz: Give Bees a Chance at Whole Foods Market Northbrook from 10AM-12PM. There will be sunflower planting, games, a chance to try on a beekeeper suit and more. Dress like a bee to be entered to win a basket. The event is free! Afterwards, there is a storewide tasting event 12PM-3PM.

Saturday and Sunday bring the Custer Fair to Evanston from 10AM-9PM each day. There will be vendors, music, international food, ecovillage, Pow Wow, Piccolo Theater Performance and more. Admission is free.

Visit the Native American Art & Craft Market at the Native American Cultural Center in Westchester Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-6PM. There will be handicraft vendors, demonstrations, Native American dances, kids activities and more. There will also be a tipi and bark wigwam. Admission is free!

Dust off your cowboy boots for the Little Boots Rodeo Saturday and Sunday in Elk Grove Village. The hours for the event are Sat 10AM-6PM and Sun 12PM-6PM. There will be a  hayride, carnival games, pig racing, a zipline, a butterfly release and more. Kids may participate in a "rodeo" by completing 13 activities with help from family. Costs are $12 for punch card for rodeo, $3 adult admission, $2 for kids for other public activities. See website for more details. There may be fees for some other activities.

Learn Planting by the Signs at the Elmhurst Art Museum Saturday from 2:00PM-4:00PM. Help plant an urban garden using moon phases and zodiac signs. The event is free with admission which is $5 per adult, $3 per child or senior and free for the under 5 set.

Sunday, June 22
There will be a Green Fair at Mike Rylko Park in Buffalo Grove from 8AM-12:30PM near the Farmer's Market. Learn about rain barrels, prairie restoration and more. Bring used shoes, crayons, eyeglasses, hearing aids, CDs, DVDs, knives, scissors, small electronics, books and clothing for recycling.
