If you have a sense of humor, and appreciate clever skewering of fashion, hipsters, parenting and our image-obsessed culture, then I’ve got a great summer read for you!  How to Quinoa: Life Lessons from My Imaginary Well-Dressed Daughter, written by Tiffany Beveridge, is a clever tome that takes aim at today’s cultural and social trends as observed through the eyes of a fictional preschool diva.

The book is based on Beveridge’s popular Pinterest board, My Imaginary Well-Dressed Daughter. Fashion-forward protagonist Quinoa offers advice and life lessons on such topics as playdate etiquette, getting into a top preschool,  selecting the right BFF, choosing a clothing designer and proper foodie choices, among others.  What’s funny is that you can easily imagine real-life examples of such kids – like Suri Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow’s kids and the Jolie-Pitt offspring.

Complementing the book’s commentary: funny quotes (“Only two things shock Quinoa: electricity and people who wear pajama pants in public.”), lists (Twenty tips for improving your personal foodie status) and photographs.  The high-fashion photos used to represent Quinoa and her friends (Chevron, Aioli, Hashtag, Stevia, Coulis, Kale, Twerk, et. al) are the centerpiece of the book, and the Pinterest board before it.  I am not entirely sure where Beveridge found all of these images, but they perfectly convey the pretension the book wittily mocks.  One of my favorite pics accompanies this quote: “On Eighties Awareness Day at school, Quinoa was especially protective of her friend Fennel’s Wham-inspired pompadour.”  I laughed out loud at that one!

The book is available for purchase on July 1st through Running Press.

For our lucky readers, we are giving away one copy of How to Quinoa: Life Lessons from My Imaginary Well-Dressed Daughter! The giveaway runs through July 10 and is open to US residents 18-years-old and older. Good luck!
