Wednesday Weekend Windup {How about a Summer Sundae!!!}



Seems like sundaes may be a bit of a theme this weekend! Maybe it is time for a little ice cream.....
maybe a milkshake or root beer float....yum!

Here are some ideas for fun this weekend:

Thursday, July 17

Get your summer on with the Summer Celebration in Vernon Hills Thursday through Sunday. There will be a carnival, bingo, kid art, a petting zoo, a car show, food vendors and more. Admission is free but check the schedule for activities.



Friday, July 18

Take a spin around Naperville with the Historic Trolley Tour.  The tour starts at 11AM and costs $10 per adult, $5 per child 4-17. Check website for more info.

Saturday, July 19

Fido can enjoy in the summer fun during the Dog Days of Summer Hike at the Trailside Museum in River Forest from 10AM-11AM Bring your well-mannered dog along for a hike. You must register by 7/17 (708-366-6530). The hike is free!

This weekend may be the time to head out to The Grove in Glenview since the historical  buildings will be open from 11AM -3PM Sat and Sun. The longhouse, schoolhouse, log cabin and Kennicott mansion will be open to the public for free!

If you are in the mood for a road trip, check out the Old Fashioned Farm Fair at The Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago, WI. The fair will include old fashioned games like finding a needle in a haystack and a pie eating contest, a ride on the East Troy Electric Railroad, cow milking with Addie the fiberglass cow, farm fair food and more. Admission is free! The Elegant Farmer has plenty of epicurean treasures to check out as well. It also isn't far from Old World Wisconsin which will be having Laura Ingalls' festivities.

Explore the world without going too far during the Ethnic Arts Festival at Centennial Park in Evanston from 12PM-7PM on Saturday and Sunday. There will be art from many different countries, family activities, music, dance, cuisine and more with free admission!

Enjoy a pleasant wagon ride during Covered Wagon Tours at the St. James Farm in Warrenville from 11:30AM-1:30PM Saturday and Sunday. The 30-minute-guided tour will relate the natural and cultural history of the preserve. The ride costs $5 per adult, $2 per child 5-12, under 5 free. No registration is necessary. I have not been to this preserve yet but everything I have read indicates that there is a bit to look at like stables and other buildings as well as some sculptures.

Saturday and Sunday enjoy a Theatre-Hike at the Morton Arboretum at 1PM. You will be following Alice in Wonderland and her zany journey! Read our previous post for more info.

Take in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" during Shakespeare in the Park at Island Park in Geneva starting at 6PM. Seating starts at 5PM. The event is free. Bring a picnic and chairs. Food will be for sale.

Sunday, July 20

Enjoy a Sundae in the Park at the Village Green in Northbrook from 12PM-4PM. Listen to live music and make a sundae at a special price. The Northbrook History Museum and Inn Shop will be open.

Summer brings Settlement Sundaes to Naper Settlement in Naperville from 1PM-4PM. Admission to the historic village includes a sundae. Admission is $12 per adult, $10 per senior, $8 youth (4-12) (sundaes served from 2-3:30PM).
