Wednesday Weekend Windup {Celebrating a New School Year}



I still can't wrap my head around the fact that my daughter will be back in school next week! This summer has seem to have flown by and it just seems we have had a lack of summery days. But, school is here! However, that doesn't mean the end to fun! There are some events this weekend that may be worth checking out:

ROAD TRIP IDEA: Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha--the Bristol Renaissance Faire will only be around 2 more weekends, so take advantage!

Friday, August 22

If your kids love to help the environment or if you are looking for a way to engage them, The Great Recycle with Honest Tea, at Whole Foods Market Northbrook may be a good idea! The event runs from 11AM-6PM. Bring in plastic bottles and glass to recycle and receive prizes. The event is free and you can incorporate it with your shopping!
Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be busy in Highland Park with the Taste of Highland Park Friday-Saturday and the Port Clinton Art Festival Sat and Sun. Admission is free. Check schedule for more details.

Palatine will be celebrating Street Fest Friday-Saturday with live music, food vendors and a kids zone Saturday and Sunday. Purchase all inclusive wristbands for kids zone at Mariano's for $5. Free admission.

Saturday, August 23

Any bug fans out there? Check out Bug Fest at Lippold Park and Red Oak Nature Center in Batavia from 9AM-1PM Saturday! The event is free and includes displays with live bugs, hands-on activities, a beekeeper, food for purchase and more. Parking is near Lippold Park with an additional overflow lot. There is a coloring sheet on the website to color for a contest.

Peruse art at the Port Clinton Art Festival in Highland Park Saturday and Sunday 10AM-6PM. Admission is free.

If you miss the recycling event on Friday, there is another The Great Recycle with Honest Tea event at Whole Foods Market Schaumburg from 11AM-6PM. Bring in plastic bottles and glass to recycle and receive prizes. The event is free.

You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown at The Morton Arboretum will be a great way to kick of back to school! The performance is at 1PM Saturday or Sunday. Tickets are $5 per member child and $10 per member adult, $10 and $20 respective for nonmembers. Nonmember prices include Arboretum admission.

Watch hot air balloons color the skies during the Color Aloft Balloon Festival at Central Park in Grayslake from 4PM-9PM. Watch an old time baseball game, listen to a storyteller and enjoy the balloon launch at 5:30PM-7:00PM with a night glow to follow. Admission is free.

Sunday, August 24

Challenge yourself during Family vs Wild at Crabtree Nature Center from 1:00PM-3:00PM. Try your hand at survival skills and see how you stack up. The event is free!
