Wednesday Weekend Windup: {Cars, Tractors, Gourds and Butterflies!}



Oh, my! This is the weekend to get out and play! There are so many fun events! We picked some that looked particularly interesting:

Friday, September 19
Friday-Sunday will be Oktoberfest in Palatine. Family Day is on Saturday with scarecrows on parade, birdhouse making and more. Check the schedule of events before going.

Saturday, September 20

If you would like to take in some art, the Fall Arts & Crafts Adventure will be in Park Ridge Saturday 9AM-5PM. There will be artwork of various media on display. Admission is free.

Saturday and Sunday enjoy the Farm Heritage Festival at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda from 9AM-4PM. The event includes farm equipment displays, border collie herding demo, petting zoo, saw mill demo, threshing demo, scarecrow making, Lake County Discovery Museum admission and more. Admission is $10 pp, $5 kids 4-17 and seniors, under 4 free. There is a coupon online.
The Harvest Powwow at Naper Settlement in Naperville is 11AM-10PM Sat, 11AM-5PM Sun. The event will include Native American dances, flute, crafts, food and more. Kids activities are 11AM-5PM. Admission is $10 per adult, $7 per child. Check website for more info.

There will be a Gourd Sale and Show at Chicago Botanic Garden from 10AM-4:30PM Saturday and Sunday. Explore gourds with demos, displays and more. Read more in our post. Free admission, $25 parking for nonmembers.

Enjoy Oktoberfest at the Glenview House Restaurant in Glenview 11AM-11PM. There will be kids activities 11AM-5:30PM and German music starting at 12PM. Food includes Bavarian pretzels, brats and beer. Free admission, food for purchase.

Sit by the Harvest Bonfire at Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg 6:30PM-8:30PM. Take a wagon ride through Spring Valley, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire and take a lantern tour of the farm. The event costs $7 pp, 3 and younger are free

Embrace fall at the Autumn Fair at Peck Farm in Geneva 10AM-3PM. There will be pony rides, hayrides, crafts, petting zoo, butterfly house and more. Free admission but minimal fees for some activities. The butterfly house is a must!

Have fun at the Scarecrow Festival at Vogelei Park in Hoffman Estates from 12PM-3PM. Check out scarecrows, kids activities and live music. Admission is free.

Sunday, September 21

Cantigny Park in Wheaton will have a sizeable Car Show and Historic Vehicle Display 9AM-3PM on Sunday. Admission is free but there is a $5 parking fee.

There will be more cars at Motoring at the Museum at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum 11AM-3PM. Admission to the car show is free for spectators.

Combine history with cars at the Fall Festival and Classic Car Show at the  Deerfield Historic Village in Deerfield from12PM-4PM. The fun includes historic building tours, vintage games, food and a car show. Admission is free.

Enjoy Art in Nature at Crabtree in Barrington 10AM-4PM. Watch artists paint in nature, engage in art projects for families, listen to live music, peruse art for sale. Admission is free.

Shermerfest will be held at the Village Green in Northbrook from12PM-4PM. There will be a classic car show, balloon artist, face painters, bake sale, soup lunch, owl demo and more with free admission.

 Oktoberfest at The Village Tavern in Long Grove from 1PM-5PM will include free hayrides, a beer tent, German music and a tractor show.
