Wednesday Weekend Windup {Happy Hallooooooooweeeeen}




Boo! I can't quite believe that it is time to celebrate Halloween. We have taken some truly glorious fall walks lately and each one has really reminded me more of September than October. But, I am trying to get in the mood! Decorating the house has really helped! There is a lot of spooktacular fun this weekend to help get in the action. Here are our picks:

ROAD TRIP: Kenosha will have trick-or-treating at its museums on Saturday, October 25 for Boofest! There will also be a Munchkin Masquerade at nearby Jelly Belly. Check websites for deets!

Friday, October 24:

Monster Mash Bash, 5PM-8PM, Forever Yogurt, Glen Town Center, Halloween fun and free FROYO up to $5 while supplies last for children ages 12 and under

Friday & Saturday: A Haunting in the Valley, Spring Valley Nature Center, 6:15PM-9:30PM, wagon rides, live owl demo, games, refreshments, mysterious trail, and more, tickets must be purchased for time slots, purchasing ahead is strongly recommended, $6 per ticket bought prior to 5PM, $8 at door

Trunk-or-Treat, Public Works, Arlington Heights, 6:30PM-8:30PM, kids activities, trick-or-treating, decorated cars, $10 per child


Saturday, October 25

Bootiful Saturday, Elmhurst City Centre, 9:30AM, free showing of Mr. Peabody and Sherman at York Theatre, trick-or-treating after movie, DJ in plaza, pumpkin patches

Learn about native wildlife at  Family Day at Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport from 10AM-4PM. The center specializes in educating about North American wildlife. It also houses orphaned wildlife. Visit with wildlife during family day. Admission is $5 pp.

Catapult Contest and Hayrides, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, catapult contest 10AM-12PM, Hayrides 12PM-4PM, hayrides are free with parking admission ($5), the catapult contest is free for onlookers, you must register if you would like to be part of the contest

Halloween Hoopla, Des Plaines, 10AM-4PM, costume parade and trick-or-treating at 10AM, pumpkin drag races, craft event at library, magic show, see website for details, free admission

BatFest, Batavia, 10AM, trick-or-treating, music, hayrides, arts & crafts, petting zoo, more--plenty of free fun--see schedule!

Kidworks Theatre Performs Games, Traditions and Music of Asia, Mt. Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:45AM, celebrate customs and traditions of Asia and even parade under a dragon, free but you must register

ArBOOretum, The Arboretum Shops, South Barrington, 11AM-1PM, free activities including trick-or-treating, hayrides, face painting, petting zoo and more!


Sugar Skull Painting, Des Plaines History Center, Des Plaines, 11AM-4PM, learn about culture, history and the art of sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos, $3 per child, $2 per child for members

Gluten Free Trick-or-Treating, Advocate Children's Hospital, Park Ridge, 12PM-2PM, children's outpatient services area, free food, admission and raffles--raffles are at 1PM

Haunted Hills, Barrington Hills, 12PM-5PM, dress in costume for trick-or-treating, equestrian shows, face painting, jumpy house, tennis court challenge, more

Deer Park Fall Fest, Deer Park Town Center, Kildeer, trick-or-treating to start at 12PM, Glinda the Good Witch at J Jill, glitter tattoos at Pandora, dog costume contest sponsored by Young at Heart Pet Adoption

Trick-or-treating, The Glen Town Center, 2PM-5PM, free event!, The Curraugh will also be having a kids' Halloween party 2PM-3:30PM

Resurrected Theatre-Hike at Morton Arboretum: Special Theatre-Hikes for Halloween on Saturdays and Sundays in October at 3PM featuring some spooky tales from the area. Check website for more details and prices.

Sunday, October 26

The Great Pumpkin Skate, Triphahn Ice Arena, Hoffman Estates, 3:00PM-4:30PM, free if in costume, hot chocolate and cookies served

The Un-haunted Forest, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM-2:30PM, come in costume for a magical hike through the forest and receive a Halloween treat, $1 per child, register
