Wednesday Weekend Windup {I Can Feel Spring}


Can you feel it? Spring is coming, spring is coming, SPRING IS COMING! The weather forecast for Saturday is over 40 degrees! Fabulous!

There are plenty of fun things to do in the area to celebrate the coming of the new season! Here are our picks:

 Thursday, March 5
  • February 14-March 15 The Orchid Show, Chicago Botanic Garden, The Orchid Show will provide extra bursts of color throughout Chicago Botanic Garden's greenhouses. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and kids with those under 2 free ($8 and $6 respectively for members).   • March 1-April 30 Lego Architecture Display at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library
  • March 5 Dr. Seuss Celebration, Old Navy at Randhurst, Mt. Prospect, 6PM-8PM, Dr. Seuss favorites will be read, free
 Friday, March 6
  • March 6 Indoor Drive in Movie, Birchwood Recreation Center, Palatine, 6:00PM-9:00PM, watch The Lego Movie from the comfort of your own cardboard box, park district will provide decorations, $10 per family, pre-register with park district 
  • March 6 Family Fun Night with Elite Soccer at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights, 6:30PM-8:00PM, (Open house for kids pre-K through 3rd grade 5PM-6:30PM, must register for open house), fun fair, games, prizes, crafts, juggle-a-thon an more!
Saturday, March 7
  • March 7-8 Sap's Rising at River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook: Take a walk in the maple forest as winter is coming to an end and learn about the maple sugaring process. The event runs 1:30PM-2:30PM both days and is free.
  • March 7 Coyote Tales Fireside, Emily Oaks Nature Center, Skokie, 6:30PM-8:00PM, hear the coyote's tales as he treks across the continent, time for hot cocoa and a craft, $5 pp 
Sunday, March 8
  • March 8 Great Midwest Train Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, Wheaton, 9AM-3PM, exhibits, lego displays, trains kids can operate, train items for purchase, $7 per adult, kids under 12 free
  • March 8 Under the Ice and Mud, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1:00PM-2:00PM, discover what has been lurking under the ice and in the mud, free!
  • March 8 Beyond the Selfie, Illinois Holocaust Museum, Skokie, 1:30PM-4:00PM, families will learn how to use digital photography and social media for societal good, for ages 10 and up, $12 pp (includes museum admission), free for members, must register, see post for more info
  • March 8 Dr. Who-Palooza, Barrington Area Library, 1:30PM-5:00PM, family fun event, come dressed as your favorite Dr. Who character, crafts, trivia, photos with TARDIS 1:30PM-3:00PM (bring your camera), free, register
  • Also, the Orchid Show, Lego Display, Sap's Rising and Festival of the Sugar Maples from above.
