Wednesday Weekend Windup: {Loads of Spring Fun}


We are over the hump and the weekend is in sight! I don't know about you, but things around here are getting a bit crazy with the end of school right around the corner. Good thing we still have time for a little fun! Here are our picks for the weekend ahead:

Thursday, April 29
  • April 29 Walpurgis Night Bonfire and Wagon Ride, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 6PM-8PM, Walpurgis Night is believed to be the night witches gathered to greet the coming of spring and planting season, celebrate with a bonfire, roasted hot dogs and marshmallows and a wagon ride, $7 pp, 3 and under free!
Saturday, May 2
  • May 2 FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, some comic book shops and libraries in the area will be giving away free comic books, check the Free Comic Book Day website to locate shops and check with your local library
  • May 2 Big Trucks, Family Aquatic Center Parking Lot, Palatine, free, 10AM-1PM, see trucks up and close and even sit in the driver's seat!
  • May 2 Earth Day, Maine Park, Park Ridge, 11AM-3PM, create recycled art, live birds of prey and small critters visit, repurposed art show, eco-friendly vendors and organizations, climb a tree and more, free, see schedule
  • May 2 Heritage Day, Peck Farm, Geneva, 10:30AM-3:00PM, ribbon cutting for new gallery and porch, see sheep herding demo and butter making, engage in games that were played back during the time of the Pecks, free!
  • May 2-3 Elmhurst Art in the Park, admission to Elmhurst Art Museum free during event, 10AM-5PM, artist, kid vendors, free admission
  • May 2 Go Fly a Kite, Wheaton, 10AM-2PM, kite demos, contests, free!
  • May 2 Barrington Area KidFest, Citizens Park, 11AM-3PM, free outdoor activities, kite fly (free kites), tree climbing, pond dipping to find macro-invertebrates, nature crafts and more!
  • May 2-3 Hawthorn Food Truck Festival, Westfield Hawthorn Mall, Vernon Hills, 12PM-4PM, some of the most popular food trucks in the area will be visiting, Avengers characters will be here to meet and greet 
  • May 2 Country in the Park, Downers Grove Museum, Downers Grove, 12PM-4PM, visit Wandschneider Park for butter making and blacksmithing demos, visit farm animals, see heirloom gardening and more
Sunday, May 3
  • May 3 Fishing Derby, Plum Grove Reservoir, Palatine, 8AM-12PM, participants over 16 years old must have valid fishing license, $3 pp
  • May 3 Lilac Time Art and Craft Fair, Lombard Chamber of Commerce, Lombard, 10AM-4PM, crafters and artisans with handmade items, free KidsZone with activities, short walk to Lilacia Park with lilacs and tulips, free admission
  • May 3 Backyards for Nature Fair and Sale, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 10AM-2PM, a variety of native plants and shrubs for sale, kids gardening activities, birdhouse building and free wildflower seedlings available, free admission, go early for best selection
  • May 3 Spring Festival, Trailside Nature Museum, River Forest, 10AM-3PM, guided wildflower walks, drip netting, animal encounters, kids' tree climb, puppet shows, craft corner, bee keeping demos, free!
