Wednesday Weekend Windup {Plenty of Father's Day Fun!}

If you are still looking for something to do this Father's Day Weekend, we have good news for you--we have plenty of ideas! The weekend seems packed with festivals {Highland Games, Passport Europe, Custer Fair and more} and other surprises {Brickworld, Rock n' Roll at Circa 57, BBQ at Pinstripes and more}. Here are our picks for the weekend!


ROAD TRIP: 
  • June 20 Midsommar Fest, Erlander Home, Rockford, 9AM-9:30PM, Nordic dancers, Stockholm Inn pancakes, flower crown making, blacksmithing, music performers, vendors and more, free admission until 4:30PM, after 4:30PM $10 pp
Ongoing:
  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
  • Butterfly House at Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 10AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, suggested $2 donation per person, $5 per family, see our previous visit to Peck Farm

  • June 19 Free Smoothie on National Flip Flop Day at Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Arlington Heights, 2PM-7PM--wear your flip flops to the cafe for a free 24oz Jetty Punch Smoothie, donate $5 to Camp Sunshine where children with life threatening illnesses and their families can go to camp and receive a key fob for 10% off of Tropical Smoothie Cafe for the rest of the year! (I do believe this is for all TSCs so double check your local one before going out!)
  • June 19-20 Highland Games, Hamilton Lakes, Itasca, festival of games, Highland dance, dog agility, kids area with inflatables, mini golf and more, British car show, piping and drumming, Celtic vendors and much more! $12 per adult on Friday, kids free. On Saturday $20 per adult, kids 3-12 $5 and 2 and under free, multi-day tickets available, buy online or at the door. Check schedule for more info.
Saturday, June 20
  • June 20-21 Art in Bloom, Cantigny Park, 10AM-4PM, artists, demos, help work on a community art project using recycled bottle caps, kids can paint on the Monster Mural, enjoy free museums at the park and stroll through the gardens, picnicking permitted, onsite cafe, free admission, $5 parking
  • June 20-21 Custer Fair, Evanston, 10AM-9PM, eco-village with purveyors of organic and fairly traded items, displays on how to work in harmony with the environment, samples, games, sweepstakes, art fair, live entertainment, wandering entertainment, free admission
  • June 20-21 Passport Europe at Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 10AM-4PM, enjoy Europe through musical entertainment, dance, food, vendors, language learning and more--in the trees! Admission is free with Arboretum admission: $14 per adult, $12 per adult 65+, kids 2-17, kids 1 and under free, parking is free.
  • June 20-21 Brick World Chicago, Renaissance, Schaumburg, 10AM-4PM Sat, 10AM-3PM Sun, amazing creations by Lego engineers and artists, interactive stations, vendors, $10 admission online, $11 at door, kids 3 and under free, military and first responders $8
  • June 20 Live music at Circa 57, Arlington Heights, live Rock 'n Roll 8PM-11PM plus specials, Reservations recommended. The handcrafted Green River is a must!
  • June 20-21 Family Camp Out, Citizens Park, Barrington, starts 5PM Saturday and ends 8:30AM Sunday, camp out with wandering too far into the wilderness, Park District will provide burgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks, there will be s'more's by the campfire, orange juice and donuts in the morning, $17 per resident, $19 per non, must register
  • Also, the Scottish Highland Games from June 19!
Sunday, June 21
  • June 21 Swedish Day, Templar Park, Geneva, 9AM-4PM, Maypole, Swedish Cottage tours, Viking ship replica, crafts, kids games, admission is $5 per adults, free for kids and free for those dressed in Scandinavian costumes
  • June 21 Father's Day Backyard BBQ and Brunch, Chicago area Pinstripes, 9:30AM-3:00PM, enjoy a backyard grill on Pinstripes' patios featuring ribs, chargrilled streaks, chicken and more, the Sunday brunch buffet will also include all of Dad's favorites from Pinstripes' Sunday Brunch including shrimp cocktail, create your own omelettes, bruschetta bar and much more, $30 per adult (includes BBQ and brunch), $15 per child 6-12, kids 5 and under are free. Reservations are recommended and also remember to reserve bowling lanes to bowl a few games with Dad!
  • June 21 Father's Day Rock' n Roll Brunch, Circa 57, Arlington Heights, 10AM-2PM, live music, full brunch with lunch and breakfast items, pastries, fruit and more, can't make it for brunch--there will be special Father's Day specials all day!   • June 21 Father's Day Classic Car Show, Oak Brook, 11AM-6PM, antique, classic, vintage and specialty autos will be displayed through Oak Brook, free admission
  • June 21 Who's Your Daddy, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn the important roles father's play in nature and take a short hike, free
  • June 21 Family Adventures-Father's Day, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 3PM-7PM, learn to use a GPS to find hidden clues on trails, learn to shoot a bow and arrow, work together to build a shelter, learn to build a fire, bring dinner to grill-grills will be provided, $12 pp, must register
