Wednesday Weekend Windup {Festivals Galore}


It is Wednesday afternoon so time to think about the weekend! There are plenty of festivals and fun times this weekend! Here are our picks for family fun:
Ongoing:
  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
  • Butterfly House at Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 10AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, suggested $2 donation per person, $5 per family, see our previous visit to Peck Farm
Thursday, June 25:
  • June 23-28 Swedish Days, Geneva, carnival, creation station, music, contests, exhibits at the Geneva History Museum, historical trolley tours, kids parade, Swedish Cottage walk, Swedish Vast (a taste of Sweden with dancers, music, art, Dala Horse carving, Viking living historians, and more see website for more--June 27&28), Swedish Days Parade, May Pole, food and much more! Friday, June 26:
  • June 26-28 Strawberry Fest, Long Grove, celebrating the strawberry all weekend long, strawberry treats and inspired items for purchase, kids activities including face painters, balloon artists, art activities and more, live music, 12 and under are free, $5 per person tickets online
  • June 26-28 Greek Fest, St. Nectarios, Palatine, Greek food, music and dancing, kids activities
  • June 26 Movie Under the Stars: ANNIE, Recreation Park, Arlington Heights, movie starts at 8:30PM but families are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic starting at 6:30PM, picnic games and bouncy house available at 7:15PM, concession food for sale

Saturday, June 27:
  • June 27 Summerfest, Glenview, 9:30AM-5:30PM, family activities including visits from the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile and the Planters NUTmobile, street performers, activities, great deals on crafts and wares, free admission
  • June 27 Pioneer Day, The Grove, Glenview, 10AM-4PM, experience how the pioneers lived with hands-on experiences and learn from costumed interpreters, free!
  • June 27-28 Civil War Reenactment Weekend, Fischer Farm, Bensenville, 10AM-3PM, drills, skirmishes, visits from famous people during the Civil War, free!
  • June 27 Family Day, Big Run Wolf Ranch, Lockport, 10AM-4PM, visit with the new wolf pups, Jim Nesci's Cold Blooded Animals are visiting, meet big cats, music and more, $6 per person
  • June 27-28 Little Boots Rodeo, Elk Grove Village, families help kids participate in 14 events to be certified as a a Cowboy or Cowgirl, other public events including panning for gold, bronco riding, petting zoo, lassoing, camel rides and much more, punch card for rodeo $12 per child, small fees for some other activities, each child is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local pantry, proceeds go to The District 59 Education Foundation, The Elk Grove Farmers Market, The Lion's, Lioness, Leo Clubs of Elk Grove Village and the Kenneth Young Center, 10AM-6PM Sat, 12PM-6PM Sun.
  • June 27 Barb's Precious Rescue Open House, Palatine, 12PM-5PM, meet and greet staff and cats to be adopted, refreshments, donations of cat food, cat litter, old towels and blankets and laundry detergent or cleaning supplies appreciated, facility tours, come celebrate this new animal rescue in Palatine
  • June 27 Prospect Heights Block Party, Gary Morava Recreational Center, Prospect Heights, 4PM-10:30PM, all pet pageant, Prospect Heights Voice Finals, duck race, inflatables, free Lions pool admission, food vendors and more, check website for times, fees for inflatables
  • June 27 Annual Family Camp Out, Prairie Lakes, Des Plaines, June 27 6PM - June 28 9AM, check out the night sky with the Oakton Astronomy Club, enjoy games and outdoor activities, bring your our camping gear, snacks and breakfast provided, $10 per resident, $12.50 non, 1 adult per 4 kids, for those ages 4 and up, must register

Sunday, June 28:
  • June 28 Green Fair, Mike Rylko Park, Buffalo Grove, 8AM-12:30PM, bring items for recycling per list, demonstrations, learn about renewable resources, water conservation, native plants, recycling, home energy saving and more, activities, free!
  • June 28 Lullabies in the Woods, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 11AM, acoustic concert of multi-cultural lullabies with Barb Sorensen, free! Prairie Spring Acupuncture Clinic will also be there to give free mini stress relief treatments to moms!
