Wednesday Weekend Windup {Dragon Boats, Windmills, Festivals and more!}

Who is ready for the weekend? We have another lovely summer weekend ahead! Here is a look at some family fun ideas:

ROAD TRIP: The replica Nina and Pinta will be visiting Racine! There will be self guided tours! A unique way for families to learn about Columbus. The ships will be docked July 24-August 1. Admission is $8 per adult, $7 per senior, $6 for kids 5-16, under 5 free. Open 9AM-6PM each day.

  • July 17-Nov 1, 2015 Nature Connects: Lego with Art by Sean Kenney, Morton Arboretum, amazing lego structures honoring nature, 27 figures, free with admission, $14 per adult, $12 seniors 65+, $9 kids 2-17, under 2 free
  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
Thursday, July 23
  • July 23-26 Algonquin Founder's Days, cardboard boat regatta, carnival, dog and cat show, Founder's market and bazaar, kids games, petting zoo, live music and more, see schedule for details
  • July 23-26 Summer Carnival, Hinkley Park, Park Ridge, live music, carnival, food and beverage area, check schedule
  • July 23-25 Sidewalk Days in Barrington, many stores will be having amazing deals during sidewalk days including Norton's U.S.A. Norton's will also have hopscotch--play to win prizes, deals are 15%-25% off in store, up to 70% off in tent outside of store
Friday, July 24
  • July 24 Raisin Rhyme Rock-n-Roll Super Show, Book Market, Glen Town Center, 7PM-8PM, rock band for rugrats bring real concert feel to little ones while they get to be part of the show, free but must register!
  • July 24 Campfire Stories, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 7:30PM, free, snacks and campfire stories! CANCELED AFTER ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED.
  • July 24-25 Mt. Prospect Downtown Block Party, Emerson and Busse, 4PM-11PM Fri, 11AM-11PM Sat, live music, local food vendors, kids fun July 25 12PM-6PM with FREE rides, free admission, check schedule

  • July 25 Vintage Baseball Festival, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10AM-3PM, longest running gathering of 1858 rules clubs, free with parking ($5)
  • July 25-26 Geneva Arts Festival, Geneva, 10AM-5PM, artists, free admission!
  • July 25 Fabyan Windmill Centennial Celebration, Fabyan Forest Preserve, Geneva, 12PM at the windmill, windmill tours, food, giveaways, pinwheel making station, be part of the pinwheel photo for time capsule, free! **We have not been to Fabyan yet but it looks cool and is on our list!**
  • July 25-26 Herb Garden Weekend, Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM-4PM, demos, learn how to make an herb garden, family activities, vendors, free seedling while supplies last, more, free with parking ($30 per car for nonmembers)
  • July 25 Christmas in July Sidewalk Sales, Glen Town Center, free visits with Santa in Navy Park from 12PM-4PM, plus balloon artist, face painting, music and more!
  • July 25 Pool Party and Duck Race, Woodstock Waterworks, Woodstock, 4PM-7PM, help support JourneyCare pediatric programs, free swimming, free activities, buy raffle tickets and adopt ducks online
  • July 25-26 Civil War Encampment, Four Season Park, Lombard, 10AM-4PM, skirmish, kids drill, battle, ballroom dance lessons on Sat at 12PM only, free but $5 pp donation requested.
  • July 25-26 North Shore Art Festival, Old Orchard, Skokie, 10AM-5PM, art and artists, kids activties, free!
  • July 25-26 Theatre-Hikes: Then Man in the Iron Mask, Morton Arboretum, 1PM, Theatre-Hikes are a great way to enjoy nature, a little exercise and theater! We have been to several theatre hikes and have enjoyed each of them! A theater experience like no other! The first Sunday of the month features a low impact hike. To learn a little more, read our post on Theatre-Hikes from last season! Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child for members, $20 and $10 respectively for non. Tickets include admission to the Morton Arboretum. Children under 2 are free.

Sunday, July 26
  • July 26 International Bog Day, Volo Bog, 12PM-4:30PM, live music, bogs in art show, bog tours, kids activities, refreshments, 
  • July 26 Trades Day, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 1PM-4PM, visit with tradesmen still producing goods, test your crafting skills, bring home a do-it-yourself souvenir and more, plus check out the village! Free with admission--$12 per adult non resident, $10 senior, $8 youth (4-12), under 4 free. Naperville residents are free
  • July 26 Pond Dippin', Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, come see what lives in the ponds by dipping nets in, free!
