  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
  • Butterfly House at Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 10AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, suggested $2 donation per person, $5 per family, see our previous visit to Peck Farm
Wednesday, July 1
  • July 1-5 Frontier Days, Arlington Heights, carnival, live music, competitions, arts and crafts fair, free admission, check schedule
  • July 1-5 Eyes to the Skies, Lisle, hot air balloon festival, launches July 2, 3 & 4, fireworks and carnival, fireworks July 2, 3 & 4, craft fair, kids area, parade, $8 pp, kids 6 and under free, Lisle residents free until 3PM July 4th, military free July 4th
Thursday, July 2
  • July 2-5 Jaycee's Hometown Fest, Palatine, carnival rides and games, fireworks July 3, bingo, toss corn hole tournament, music entertainment, craft fair, free family day July 5 1PM-4PM with free face painting, balloon art, temporary tattoos, crafts and painting, check website for further details and wristband for rides
  • July 2-5 Naperville RibFest, ribs from world class chefs, kids activity area, headline bands, check online for ticket information--there are different options, proceeds are donated to charity
  • Also Eyes to the Skies and Frontier Days from above
Saturday, July 4
  • July 4 Northbrook 4th of July, pancake breakfast, 5k, fun run, mini golf tournament, bike parade, rubber ducky race, parade, fireworks and more, check website
  • July 4-5 Art Festival, Chicago Botanic Gardens, 10AM-4PM plus drop in events for families at Natives Garden and Fruit and Vegetable Garden, free admission, parking $30 per car
  • July 4 Parade and tours of Barrington White House, Barrington, tours will start about 11AM and go through 4PM, the house has been undergoing renovations so you will not only learn about the history of the house on the tour but learn about the renovations as well, parade starts at 10AM
  • July 4 Millennium Carillon Tours, Naperville, 10AM-4PM, climb to the top for an amazing view, $3 per person, 4 and under free! Those who need assistance can take an elevator to an observation deck.
  • July 4 Chain O'Lakes Fireworks, fireworks over the lake at dusk

Sunday, July 5
  • July 5 Malott Japanese Garden Sundays, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-4PM, drop in activities--make samurai masks, also drop-in aquatic activities at the native plant garden and the Regenstein fruit and vegetable garden and an art fair, free, parking is $30 per car
  • July 5 Theatre-Hikes: Then Man in the Iron Mask, Morton Arboretum, 1PM, Theatre-Hikes are a great way to enjoy nature, a little exercise and theater! We have been to several theatre hikes and have enjoyed each of them! A theater experience like no other! The first Sunday of the month features a low impact hike. To learn a little more, read our post on Theatre-Hikes from last season! Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child for members, $20 and $10 respectively for non. Tickets include admission to the Morton Arboretum. Children under 2 are free.
  • July 5 Flint Creek Savanna Self-guided Prairie Walk, Lake Barrington, 1PM-4PM, free, be sure to bring your smart phone with a keycode reader, see our experience on a prairie walk.
  • July 5 Red, White and Blue, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, hike Bur Edge Trail trying to spot flowers, fruits or animals wearing our national colors, free!
  • July 5 American Raptors, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, visit with our national symbol, the eagle, and learn how they survive, free!
  • July 5 Special Needs Night, Centennial Beach, Naperville, 6:30PM-8:00PM, enjoy a quiet evening outside of regular operating hours, shallow area and slide will be open, $3 pp or use membership
