Wednesday Weekend Windup {Back to School}



Whoa! Summer went fast! I know that a number of schools are already back in session. My daughter has another week enough which we are very much enjoying. We have quite a bit planned in the next few days including watching plenty of her new favorite--Dr. Who!

  • July 17-Nov 1, 2015 Nature Connects: Lego with Art by Sean Kenney, Morton Arboretum, amazing Lego structures honoring nature, 27 figures, free with admission, $14 per adult, $12 seniors 65+, $9 kids 2-17, under 2 free
  • May 23-Sept 7 Butterflies and Blooms, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, $6 per adult, $5 per senior, $4 per child 3-12, 2 and under free, members get $1 discount, parking $30 per car on weekends
  • May 23-Sept 19 Butterfly House at Peck Farm, Geneva, Mon-Sat 10AM-5PM, Sun 12PM-5PM, suggested $2 donation per person, $5 per family, see our previous visit to Peck Farm

  • August 21-22 Little Bear Ribfest, Little Bear Lake at Century Park, Vernon Hills, musical entertainment, rib vendors, kids activity area, 6PM-12AM Fri, 3PM-12AM Sat, $5 pp, food for purchase, kids 5 and under are free
  • August 21 Family Night Out, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 5:30PM-7:30PM, lawn games, life size games, family fun, $2 parking per car--also, movie in the park starting at 8:30PM, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Saturday, August 22
  • August 22 Fox Valley Aero Club Festival of Flight, St. Charles, 9AM-6PM, air show with various sizes and types of planes, demos, $5 pp, check post in Daily Herald for more info 
  • August 22 Bug Fest, Lippold Park and Red Oak Nature Center, Batavia, 9:00AM-1:00PM, bug themed activities, insect encounters and more, concessions for purchase, free admission
  • August 22 Vintage Baseball Games, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10AM-3PM, $5 parking
  • August 22 Family Nature Club, Crabtree Nature Center, 1PM, connect with nature through play, meet animals, family activities, free
  • August 22-23 Theatre-Hikes: Clue the Musical, Morton Arboretum, 1PM, Theatre-Hikes are a great way to enjoy nature, a little exercise and theater! We have been to several theatre hikes and have enjoyed each of them! A theater experience like no other! The first Sunday of the month features a low impact hike. To learn a little more, read our post on Theatre-Hikes from last season! Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child for members, $20 and $10 respectively for non. Tickets include admission to the Morton Arboretum. Children under 2 are free.
  • August 22 Monarchs and Milkweed, Prairieview Education Center, Crystal Lake, 1:30PM-3:00PM, learn about monarch life cycle and migration, go on a hike searching for monarchs and their larvae, free for residents, $2 for non
