A Little Time and a Keyboard: Family Weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Family Weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

This past weekend we headed up to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a little summer exploration. Grand Rapids is about 3.5 - 4 hours from the Chicago area making it great for a long weekend. As the second largest city in Michigan, you can imagine there is a lot to experience in the city! This week, we will be talking about our Grand Rapids discoveries as well as our fun at nearby Grand Haven for a little beach time.

The city has grown along the shores of the Grand River which lends for some picturesque views and spectacular walks along the river. We stayed at the historic Amway Grand and enjoyed taking walks down to the river for some inspiring views.

Known as "Furniture City," Grand Rapids was once the premier furniture manufacturing centers of the United States. Today, Grand Rapids is still a leader in office furniture production. The city's dedication to craftmanship is still evident within the beauty of the downtown area itself and its incorporation of sculpture throughout.

The city does offer many unique attractions for families, some of which are within walking distance of the downtown hotels making for a lovely little family visit. However, little jaunts away from the city center are much worth it as well!

Of course, we will have to discuss eats and beer (Grand Rapids IS Beer City, after all)! We found some great spots and even visited one twice--yes, it is that good!

We will be exploring:
Follow along!
A special thank you to Experience Grand Rapids for hosting our visit!
