Wednesday Weekend Windup {Fall Weekend Fun}



Have you noticed that some of the leaves are all ready turning? Fall is definitely here and hopefully we will soon be bathing in crimson, tangerine and golden hues. This weekend features a number of fall events to get you in the mood! Here are some picks for the weekend:


Ongoing:
  • July 17-Nov 1, 2015 Nature Connects: Lego with Art by Sean Kenney, Morton Arboretum, amazing lego structures honoring nature, 27 figures, free with admission, $14 per adult, $12 seniors 65+, $9 kids 2-17, under 2 free
  • September 1-October 31 Amaze N Apples at Royal Oak Farm Orchard in Harvard--a fall maze with a spin--it is made from apple trees! Check out this farm for apple picking, family fun activities including the maze, a bakery and more! Check website for hours, open daily September and October.
  • Also, Richardson Corn Maze, Stade's Shades of Autumn and Didier Farm's Pumpkin Fest. We love all of them!
Friday, October 2
  • October 2-4 Fall Bulb Festival, Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-4PM, live music, gourd display, straw bale maze, family activities, 20 local fresh food vendors, bulbs for sale, free, parking $30 per car
  • October 2-3: Oktoberfest, Naper Settlement, Naperville, live music, German food and beer, kids activities on Saturday 12PM-4PM, tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per kid in advance, $15/$10 at the door
Saturday, October 3
  • October 3 Fall Foliage Crafts, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10:30AM, enjoy crafts like leaf rubbing out in the forest, free
  • October 3-4 Pumpkin Weekends at Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 11AM-4PM, seasonal craft making, corn crib, pumpkin paddling and more fall fun, residents $5/adult, $4.50/child or senior, nonresidents $8/adult, $7/child or senior
  • October 3 Autumn Harvest Fest, North School Park, Arlington Heights, 11AM-3PM, petting zoo, face painting and crafts, farmers market, food vendors and all-day entertainment, free admission
  • October 3-4 Norge Ski Festival, Fox River Grove, 12PM-4PM, ski jumping, food and fun, $15 at the door, kids 12 and under are free, bring chairs and blankets, music fest on Saturday starting at 4PM, music fest tix $10
  • October 3 Cultural Faire, Arlington Heights Library, 1PM-3PM, through food, performances and crafts learn about the diverse cultures that make Arlington Heights, free, drop in
  • October 3-4   Theatre-Hikes: In This Final Century (Adaptation of War of the Worlds), Morton Arboretum, 1PM, Theatre-Hikes are a great way to enjoy nature, a little exercise and theater! We have been to several theatre hikes and have enjoyed each of them! A theater experience like no other! The first Sunday of the month features a low impact hike. To learn a little more, read our post on Theatre-Hikes from last season! Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child for members, $20 and $10 respectively for non. Tickets include admission to the Morton Arboretum. Children under 2 are free.
  • October 3 Family Gaming, Mt. Prospect Public Library, 2PM-4PM, racing, sporting and mini-games set up for your family, Xbox, Wii and more, challenge your family for a game, drop in
  • October 3-4 Oktoberfest, Lynfred Winery, Roselle, grape stopping, grape spitting, German sing-a-longs, cork tossing, pig roast, brats, German chocolate cake and more, $3 admission, $1 for food and beverage tickets, kids 13 & under are free, see schedule, 3PM-9PM Sat, 12PM-7PM Sun

  • October 4 Autumn Harvest Festival, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-5PM, hands-on demonstrations from the frontier-era and 1880's farm life, cider pressing, blacksmithing, grain threshing and more, kids crafts, live string music, food for purchase, $5 pp, $20 per family, 3 and and under are free, one of our FAVORITE festivals of the year!
  • October 4 Harvest of the Acorn Moon, Oakhurst Forest Preserve, Aurora, 1PM-4PM, crafts, pumpkin plates, folk music, guided hikes, free admission, nominal fee for crafts and refreshments
  • October 4 Oktoberfest Twin Lakes, Twin Lakes, Palatine, 1PM-4PM, live music, german food, pumpkin patch ($5 or 5 donated canned items), free hayrides, free face painting
