Wednesday Weekend Windup: {Holiday Fun Begins & More}


I can't believe that holiday events are starting already--but they are! There are a number to enjoy this weekend plus some non-holiday fun as well! Here are my picks for the weekend:
Thursday, November 12
  • November 12-15 The Grove Arts & Crafts Faire, The Grove, Glenview, Th & Fri 10AM-8PM, Sat & Sun 10AM-5PM, HUGE gift and craft fair, $5 admission but worth it!
Friday, November 13
  • November 13-15 America's Baking and Sweets Show, Renaissance Schaumburg, Fri&Sat 10AM-6PM, Sun 10AM-5PM, demos, hands-on classes, vendors, $10/adult, 12 and under free, 13-17 $8, seniors $8, military $8, additional fees for classes, see website
  • November 13 Family Fun Night, Community Center, Rolling Meadows, 6:00PM-7:30PM, bounce house, games, bubble machine, face painting, popcorn, free
  • November 13 Santa Arrives at Deer Park Center, Deer Park, 6PM-8:30PM, Santa arrives on a firetruck, fireworks, visit with Santa, free!
  • Also, Grove Craft Faire from above.
Saturday, November 14
  • November 14 America Recycles Day, Fuller Air Station Prairie, Glenview, 10AM-2PM, learn about recycling and recycling at home, family activities and crafts, free
  • November 14 Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Northbrook Theatre, 10AM and 1PM, $12 pp, purchase tickets online
  • November 14 Holly Days, Knupper Nursery, Palatine, 2PM-5PM, Santa is stopping by with his reindeer, 2PM-4PM meet reindeer, 2PM-4PM meet Sugar Plum Fairy, pictures with Santa 2PM-5PM, free
  • November 14 Family Night Out: Stars, Stories and S'mores, Thatcher Woods Pavilion, River Forest, 4PM-7PM, campfire, storytelling, s'mores, nature activities, free!
  • November 14 Tree Lighting Festival, Arboretum Shops, South Barrington, 5:30PM, lighting of the tree, caroling, ice skating on rink (admission to rink $12 w/ skate rental, $8 without)
  • November 14 The Turkey Hunt Road Rallye, starts at Woodfield Parking Lot, ends at Garibaldi's Hoffman Estates, registration starts at 6PM, event starts at 7:15PM, $10 per car, turkey bowling, turkey trot and more family fun following clues

Sunday, November 15
  • November 15 Geocaching 101, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 12PM-2PM, learn how to geocache, borrow a GPS or bring your own, supplies limited, free!
  • November 15 The Salvation Army and York Theatre Present The Wizard of Oz, York Theatre, Elmhurst, 4PM-6PM, $7.50 pp, all proceeds donated to Salvation Army 
  • Also, the Grove Craft Faire and America's Baking and Sweets Show from above.
