Wednesday Weekend Windup {Christmas Fun, Star Wars, Ice Skating & More}

  • November 20-January 2 Illumination at the Morton Arboretum, daily 5PM-9:30PM (last entry 8:30PM) EXCEPT Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the following Mondays: November 23, November 30, December 7, and December 14, amazing interactive light experience in the trees and woven in nature, ticket prices vary upon day, see website for more information, one of our favorite events of the year!
  • November 27-January 3 Wonderland Express, Chicago Botanic Garden, Nov 27-Dec 17 10AM-5PM, Dec 18-Jan 3 10AM-7PM, tickets adults $10 members/$12 non, Seniors $8/$10, kids $8/$10, under 3 are free, Tuesdays are half price, parking is $20 per car (purchase online in advance), check schedule for special events and when the exhibit is closed to public
  • December 5-20 Winter Wonderland Express, Blackberry Farm, Aurora
  • December 11-21  Incredible Light Show, Randhurst Village, Mt. Prospect, free, animated projection light show, runs every half hour 6PM-8PM, Dec 11-12, 18-19 preshow at 5:30PM with elves, Santa visits 12PM-5PM Dec 12 & 19

  • December 16-20 Holiday Store at The Grove, Glenview,  10AM-5PM, gift and craft fair, free admission, sale of items benefits The Grove
Friday, December 18:
  • December 18-January 3 Winter Carnival, Glenview, public skates, skates with characters, learn to skate, hockey games and more, see schedule for more info, registration need for some events
  • December 18-20 Ornaments/Window Sparklers, Patterson Glass, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, make your own glass ornaments, $25 pp, first come, first serve, sounds fun!
  • December 18 Santa Pictures, Morkes Chocolates, Palatine, 12PM-6PM, free
  • December 18 Holiday Figure Skating Exhibition, Glenview Ice Center, 5PM-7:50PM, free
  • December 18 Owl Hike, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 7PM, call to register: 847-381-6592, free

  • December 19-20 Star Wars Mini-Con, Highland Park Public Library, yoda yoga, bb8 obstacle course, search for tatooine, Mr. Freeze show showing effects of liquid nitrogen on everyday objects, check schedule for specifics, free
  • December 19 Knupper's Craft Fair, Palatine, 10AM-4PM, free, non-perishable food items will be collected for Palatine Food Pantry
  • December 19 Holiday Party, Elmhurst Art Museum, 12PM-4PM, holiday craft, treats, visit with Santa, admission to museum is $8 per adult, $7 per senior and free for kids!
  • December 19 Victorian Christmas, Downer's Grove Museum, 1PM-3PM, special holiday tour of the Blodgett House, learn about Victorian traditions, have a warm cup of cider, free!
  • December 19-20 Winter Festival, Randall Oaks Zoo, West Dundee, 2PM-8PM, hayrides, face painting, ice carving (2PM-6PM), live reindeer (2PM-6PM), $3.25/resident, $4/nonresident
  • December 19 Jingle Bell Jamboree, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 3PM-9PM, live music, cookie decorating, make reindeer food, make a craft, see Naper Lights and more, $7 per person, $5 per youth

  • December 20 To Snooze or Not To Snooze, River Trail Nature Center, 1:30PM, explore mystery of why some animals sleep during winter and others don't, check out wildlife artifacts, free!
