Wednesday Weekend Windup: {Chocolate, Mardi Gras & Winter Fun!}


Weekend ahead! Here are my picks for family fun events this weekend! The weekend will be warmer than normal for February, so do check on snow events before attending.
Ongoing:
  • January 15-February 21 Enchanted Railroad at Morton Arboretum, 12 model trains traveling through the seasons, LEGO train car made of 2,500 bricks by artist Sean Kenney, free with Arboretum admission, get timed ticket at Visitor's Center, $9 Adults ages 18–64 $8 Seniors ages 65+  $6 Youth ages 2–17 
  • January 16-March 26 Once Upon a Time....Exploring the World of Fairy Tales at Arlington Heights Memorial Library: new play exhibit where kids can step into 7 different fairy tales, geared towards children ages 3-10, see other events associated with exhibit
Road Trip:
  • February 3-February 14 Lake Geneva Winterfest, a number of winter fun activities including the US National Snow Sculpting Competition Feb 3-7, hot cocoa crawl, bonfire on the beach, human dog sled, winter carnival, illusionist, helicopter rides and more, check schedule
  • February 6 Jurassic Park Movie Marathon, Kenosha Public Museum, Kenosha, 12PM-9PM, bring a lawn chair and blanket, ongoing Twitter commentary by area paleontologists, beverages, popcorn and hot dogs will be sold in lobby during marathon, free!
Friday, February 5:
  • February 5-6 Make your own Glass Hearts, Patterson Glassworks, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, $25 or $50 depending on size, first come, first serve
  • February 5 Agent Mooney Band, Christie's Dairy Delights, Palatine, 5PM-7PM, a unique blend of country rocking music
Saturday,February 6:
  • February 6-7 Chocolate Expo, Morton Arboretum, 9AM-4PM, chocolate vendors, sample chocolate and pick up a treat for home, free with admission, check out the Enchanted Railroad while you are there, $9 Adults ages 18–64
    $8 Seniors ages 65+  $6 Youth ages 2–17 
  • February 6 Nature Discovery Day, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 10AM-12PM, complete nature craft, explore the science of nature, view live animals, roast marshmallows over a campfire, free
  • February 6  Juni B. Jones, Northbrook Theatre, 10:00AM or 1:00PM, $12 pp, reserve tickets online
  • February 6 Wonders of Winter, Mayslake, Oak Brook, 10AM-1PM, ice fishing, geocaching, outdoor fun, nature hikes, horse drawn hayride, indoor activities, free
  • February 6 Polar Bear Fun with Ben & Jerry's, The Glen Town Center, Glenview, 10:30AM-11:30AM, story time, craft, celebrate with a yummy surprise, for ages 2-6 with family, free but must register online
  • February 6 Make It Saturday, Barrington Area Library, 11AM-4PM, day packed with hands-on art, engineering and science activities including projects made in the Maker Lab, free!
  • February 6 Kids Craft Party, Forever Yogurt, The Glen Town Center, Glenview, 12PM-2PM, make a craft, kids eat free +25% off of purchase
  • February 6 Frostival, Park Ridge, Oakton Sports Complex, 11AM-2PM, outdoor games, cardboard box sledding, cookie decorating, crafts, entertainment, visits from Princesses, Snowman, free
