Wednesday Weekend Windup: {St. Patrick's Day, Easter Egg Hunts & Maple Syrup}

With St. Patrick's Day and Easter so close together, there are so many fun events this weekend! Plus, spring is here! Here are my picks for the weekend ahead:

Thursday, March 17
  • March 17 Paint the Waterfall Green, Lake Katherine, Palos Heights, 12PM-4PM, watch the waterfall be dyed green, kids are encouraged to dress in green, free, complimentary samples of Green River. also check out the nature center and go for a walk
  • March 17 A Taste of Maple Syrup FestCummins Square, River Forest, 11AM-2PM, learn how real maple syrup is made, enjoy food from food trucks with maple syrup inspired menu items, free admission
  • March 17-19 Barrington Celtic Fest, McGonigal's Pub, Irish dancers, Irish music, bagpipers, free admission but donation to Relay for Life appreciated, 21 and older only after 8PM
Friday, March 18
  • March 18-20 Chicagoland Family Pet Expo, Arlington Park, Arlington Heights, live entertainment, pet rescue groups, pet item vendors, 1PM-9PM Fri, 9AM-6PM Sat, 10AM-5PM Sun, adults $10, kids 3-12 $5, parking $7 (cash only), $1 off coupon online, check out Friday special, please do not bring pets
Saturday, March 19
  • March 19 Maple FestRed Oak Nature Center, Batavia, 9AM-1PM, maple tapping demos every hour, free, maple snacks and hot beverages for sale
  • March 19 Northwest Celtic Fest, Sears Centre, Hoffman Estates, 10AM-5PM, live entertainment, Celtic food, kids games, Irish dancing demos, whiskey/scotch tasting and more, free admission and parking
  • March 19 Living History Day, Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 1PM-3PM, crafts, activities, games and demos, $5 pp, drop in UPDATED TIME DUE TO MiSPRINT IN AHPD CATALOG
  • March 19 Paint the Town Green, Palatine, 9AM-1PM Irish Market, 11AM parade, free admission
  • March 19-20 Malott Japanese Garden Spring Weekend, Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM-4PM, write a seasonal haiku, make a cherry blossom hanging scroll, watch a suminagashi demonstration, enjoy storytelling and koto harp demo, free, parking $25 per car for nonmembers
  • March 19 Crystal Lake's Largest Easter Egg Hunt, Veteran Acres-Baseball Field, 11:30AM-1:30PM, egg hunt begins promptly at noon, separate area for those ages 0-3, crafts, purchase an egg for an egg roll and more, 10,000 eggs, free event, bring your basket!
  • March 19&20 Maple Syrup Hikes, Ryerson Woods, Riverwoods, 12PM-2PM every half hour, see tapping in process, see how tap turns to sap, $6 pp, children under 3 free, must register: 847-968-3321
  • March 19 Sap's RisingRiver Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, walk through the forest as winter comes to an end and learn about the history of maple syrup production, free

  • March 20 Easter Egg Hunt, Capinnari's Mt. Prospect, 12PM, free, bring your own basket, for ages 2-7
