Wednesday Weekend Windup {Frogs, Lilacs, Art and More!}


Isn't it lovely! Spring is here! There are so many wonderful events this weekend including a way that you can visit the Morton Arboretum for free on Friday! Here are my picks for the weekend ahead:

Ongoing:
  • March 19-May 15 Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens' tropical conservatory is aflutter with butterflies! A special emergence area allows visitors to witness the butterfly life cycle as butterflies emerge from their chrysalises. Enjoy a peaceful stroll among the butterflies admiring the conservatories water features and sculptures. Adults $6 residents/$8 non, Seniors, Veterans and ages 5-18 $4/$6, ages 3-4 $1/$2, age 2 and under are free.
  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughout the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
Friday, April 29:
  • April 29 Dress Like A Tree, Get in Free at Morton Arboretum, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, get free general admission April 29 only if you come dressed like a tree
  • April 29-30 Mount Prospect Irish Fest, Emerson and Busse, Mt. Prospect, Irish music and dancers, vendors, food, free admission, check website for schedule
  • April 29-May 1 Glenview Ice Show, Glenview Ice Center, figure skaters and hockey players of various levels show their skills, from tots to competitive levels, tickets $8 pp, order online
  • April 29 Dog Dayz, Administration Building, Rolling Meadows, 4PM-6PM, kiddy pools for pups, treats, toys, adoptable pets, dog obedience instructor, admission is donation of two items: Dog Toys, Cat Toys, Thundershirt, Pedigree Canned Dog Food, Towels/Blankets, etc. All items donated will go towards Anderson Animal Shelter. 
  • April 29 Walpurgis Night Bonfire and Wagon Ride, Heritage Farm, 6PM-8PM, witches in April, enjoy a German spring tradition with a bonfire, wagon rides, roasted marshmallows, hot dogs and more, $7 pp, children 3 and younger are free
Saturday, April 30:
  • April 30 Spring Fling Craft Show, Garden Terrace Room, Elk Grove Village, 9AM-3PM, craft vendors, home sales companies, free admission
  • April 30-May 1 Art in the Park, Elmhurst, 10AM-5PM, artists, live music, food vendors, free admission
  • April 30 Earth Day 2016, Maine Park, Park Ridge, 11AM-3PM, make a recycled craft, live music, birds of prey, reptiles, eco-friendly vendors and more, see schedule, free admission
  • April 30 Sneak Preview Opening Day Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 11AM-2PM, $3 pp, opening day is May 1--check website for hours and prices
  • April 30 Healthy Kids Day, Northbrook YMCA, 1PM-4PM, games, demos and more, free!
  • April 30 Irish Dance Lessons with Trinity Irish Dancers, Mt. Prospect Public Library, 3PM-3:45PM, watch dancing and enjoy a free lesson, must rsvp, ages 3-10 accompanied by and adult

Sunday, May 1:
  • May 1 Lilac Time Art and Craft Fair, Downtown Lombard, 10AM-4PM, artisans, crafters. free kidszone, lilacs and tulips, free admission
  • May 1 Bicycle Clinic, Arlington Toyota, Arlington Heights, 11AM-3PM, free tune ups, free fix-a-flats, safety stations, vendors and more, free admission, any proceeds donated to Epilepsy Foundation
  • May 1 Spring Festival, Trailside, River Forest, 10AM-3PM, bird banding, bird house building ($5), tree climbing, wildflower walks, beehive demos, animal visits and more, free admission
  • May 1  Backyards for Nature and Native Plant Sale, Spring Valley Nature Center, Schaumburg, 10AM-2PM, learn about native plants, rain gardens and composting, free wildflower seedlings, birdhouse building, native plants and heirloom veggie & herb plants for sale, free admission
  • May 1 Spring Dance Outreach, Metropolis, Arlington Heights, 6PM-8PM, free, please RSVP
