Copper Frog Sculptures in nature at Morton Arboretum

Hooray! We are over the hump! Here are my favorite events for this weekend:

  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughut the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
Friday, May 20
  • May 20-22 Long Grove Chocolate Festival, chocolate tastings, live music, children's activity tent, tickets at $5 pp, kids 12 and under are free, $5 for 5 tastings
Saturday, May 21
  • May 21 Blooming Fest, West Chicago, 9AM-3PM, plant sale, handcraft & fine arts sale, museum exhibit, railroad exhibit, live entertainment, free admission
  • May 21-22 Civil War Days, Naper Settlement, Naperville, 10AM-4PM, battle at 2:30PM, tickets $15 per adult, $10 youth (4-12), under 4 and members are free, discount if you buy tickets online by 5/20
  • May 21 Spring Fun Fair, Mountain View Adventure Center, Des Plaines, 10AM-1PM, pooch, pet and pedal parade, touch-a-truck, inflatable obstacle course and more, free!
  • May 21-22 Malott Japanese Garden Children's Festival, Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, 10AM-2PM, 10:30AM tea ceremony, storytelling, crafts, hands-on stations, free, parking $25 per car for nonmembers, can purchase parking online
  • May 21 Kite Day, Attea Middle School, Glenview, 10AM-2PM, bring your kites for some kite flying fun, tips from experts, make your kite kits available, free admission
  • May 21-22 Skokie Festival of Cultures, Oakton Park, Skokie, 11AM-7PM, dancing, music and cultural activities, cultural booths, kids tent, international marketplace, beer tasting and more, free admission
  • May 21 Free Trail Walk at The Grove, Glenview, 2PM-3PM, guided nature walk focusing on pond life, wildflowers and insects, free
  • Also, Long Grove Chocolate Festival
Sunday, May 22

  • May 22 Free Bird Walk 2016, Kent Fuller Air Station, Glenview, 9AM-11AM, all level of birders welcome, learn about birds on the prairie, bring a binoculars, best for those ages 8 and up
  • May 22 Des Plaines Canoe and Kayak Marathon, 8AM, race free for spectators, festivities at 11AM at Dam #2, see website for more info
  • May 22 Farrhad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride, Blackwell School, Schaumburg, 12PM-2:15PM, free hot dog or brat, chips and drink, entertainment, tour rides as a group, 5 mile ride, not recommended for beginners and those on training wheels, bus ride back, free
  • May 22 Migratory Madness, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, find out how, why and win of bird migration, free
