Wednesday Weekend Windup {Fireflies, Elizabethean England, Civil War Days & More}

You know summer is really here when it is time for the Bristol Renaissance Faire! Definitely one of my faves every year! Plus, Civil War Days provide a unique family adventure! Of course, there is plenty more to do this weekend as well! Here are my picks:

Ongoing:
  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughut the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
  • May 28-Sept 5 Butterflies and Blooms opens at Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, enjoy immersing yourself in the live butterfly exhibit, adults $6, seniors $5, kids $4 (3-12), 2 and under free, discount for members, packs available, $25 parking per car on weekdays, $30 weekends if not members
  • July 9-Labor Day Bristol Renaissance Faire, Bristol, WI, Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day, see website for schedule and tickets

Saturday, July 9:
  • July 9 Church Creek DOGS Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show for St. Jude's, 9AM-1PM, Church Creek Senior Living, $10 entry fee per vehicle, free for visitor's, music, food & fun for a good cause
  • July 9-10 Civil War Days, Lakewood Forest Preserve, Saturday 10AM-5PM, Sun 9AM-3PM, encampment, battle, 1863 summer fair, period crafts, tradesmen, see schedule, $10 per adult, $5 ages 4-17, 3 and under free, $1 off if purchased online or download coupon, see about weekend pass
  • July 9 Scales and Tails with Frog Lady, Mt Prospect Public Library, 11AM-11:45AM, learn the difference between reptiles and amphibians, visit with 20 live animals, free but must register
  • July 9 Free Hockey Sessions by Rolling Meadows Renegades, West Meadow, Rolling Meadows, 12:10PM-1:10PM, equipment provided, please register 847-398-2700 ext 100, new skaters and tot skaters only, ages 3-8
  • July 9 Woodland Ramble, Trailside, River Forest, 1PM, walk with interactive look at trees, wildflowers and wildlife, free
  • July 9 Free Trail Walk at The Grove, Glenview, 2PM-3PM, walk will focus on pond life, insects and wildflowers
