Wednesday Weekend Windup: {Irish Fest, Summer Festivals, Balloons, & More}



Another summer weekend ahead! Here are my picks for fun!

  • April 8-September 25 Ribbit! The Exhibit, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 23 larger-than-life copper frog sculptures of frogs performing different activities throughut the arboretum, free with admission, $14 Adults ages 18–64, $12 Seniors ages 65+ , $9 Youth ages 2–17 (discounted admission on Wednesdays)
  • May 28-Sept 5 Butterflies and Blooms opens at Chicago Botanic Garden, 10AM-5PM, enjoy immersing yourself in the live butterfly exhibit, adults $6, seniors $5, kids $4 (3-12), 2 and under free, discount for members, packs available, $25 parking per car on weekdays, $30 weekends if not members
  • July 9-Labor Day Bristol Renaissance Faire, Bristol, WI, Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day, see website for schedule and tickets

Friday, July 15:
  • July 15 Family Night, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 5:30PM-7:30PM, cruise night, live music, tinkering for families, stay for movie in the park at 8:30PM Smokey and the Bandit, admission free, $5 parking
  • July 15 Family Fun Night Into the West, Barrington, Citizens Park, 5:30PM-8:30PM, inflatables, games, bubble show, face painting, more, $5 for activity wristband
  • July 15 Summer Figure Skating Exhibition, Glenview Ice Center, 6PM-8PM, free
  • July 15-17 Alpine Fest, Lake Zurich, parade, carnival, bands and more
  • July 15-16 Irish Fest, Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 5PM-11PM Friday, 4PM-11PM Saturday, $5 per adult either night, Friday kids ages under 15  are free, Sat kids 3-14 are $3 (under 3 are free), Irish dancing, music, vendors and more

Saturday, July 16:
  • July 16 Painting by the Pond, Trailside, River Forest, 9AM-12PM, artists will be painting near the pond, free
  • July 16 Comic Book Mania Convention, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, 10AM-5PM, characters from Star Wars, over 25 comic book artists in Artists' Alley, wear a costume and receive a free prize, free face painting, free admission, other programs and panels throughout the day
  • July 16 Family Days, Big Run Wolf Ranch, Lockport, 10AM-4PM, $6 pp, animal visits, visits from Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary, food, music and more
  • July 16-17 Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival, Dawes Park, Evanston, 12PM-7PM, celebrating many countries, family crafts, dance, spoken word, live music, international cuisine and more, admission is free
  • July 16 Arts in the Park, Towne Square, Palatine, 10AM-2PM, live music entertainment, learn about acting, create works of art, free but you will need to register at Town Square day of the event, adapted art equipment available
  • July 16-17 Art in the Park, Village Green, Northbrook, 10AM-5PM Sat, 10AM-4PM Sun, variety of artists, demos, kids activities, free admission
  • July 16 Old Settler's Picnic and Beer Garden, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 12PM-3PM, bring a family picnic, enjoy a day interacting with the farm's reenactors

Sunday, July 17:

  • July 17 Mulligan Stew Concert, Capinnari Ice Cream, Mt. Prospect, 6PM-8PM, free concert
