We are over the halfway point to the weekend! Woo hoo! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend in the Chicago suburbs:

Friday, September 30:
  • September 30-October 1 Oktoberfest at Naper Settlement, Naperville, Friday 5PM-10PM, Saturday 12PM-10PM, live music, German beer and cuisine, kids activities and building tours 12PM-4PM Saturday, $15 adult; $10 youth (4-12 yrs); Under 4 years old and Naper Settlement Members are free, online tickets can be purchased by 4PM Thursday with a discount, otherwise purchase day of, see schedule

  • October 1 Fabulous Fall Fest, Lions Memorial Park, Mount Prospect, 11AM-3PM, corn maze, hayride, train rides, climbing wall, games, prizes, for kids ages 3-11, $5 per child, adults are free, kids must be accompanied by an adult
  • October 1 Northbrook Autumn Fest, Meadowhill Park, 2PM-6PM, petting zoo, hayride, bonfire, magician, pumpkin crushing dinosaur and more, free admission
  • October 1 Free Trail Walk, The Grove, Glenview, 2PM-3PM, focuses on wildflowers, pondlife and insects, guided
  • October 1-2 Oktoberfest at Lynfred Winery, Roselle, Saturday 3PM-9PM, Sunday 12PM-7PM, grape stomping, costume contest--best lederhosen, best I Love Lucy, food, wine and more, $3 admission per person, ages 13 and under free, food tickets for purchase

Sunday, October 2
  • October 2 Folk Fest, The Grove, Glenview, 11AM-5PM, folk music, square dancing, hayrides, Native American flute circle, exotic animal show, see schedule, $4 for adults, $1 12 years old and under
  • October 2 Autumn Harvest Festival, Vera Meineke Nature Center, Schaumburg, 12PM-5PM, demos and hands-on experiencing of 1880's farm life during autumn including cider pressing, children's crafts, live string music, 19th century games, fall treats for purchase, $5 pp, $20 per family, kids 3 and under are free
  • October 2 Autumn Walk, Trailside, River Forest, 1PM, free
  • October 2 Dinosaurs and Mammals of Illinois' Past, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, free
  • October 2 All-A-Buzz About Honey, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, meet River Trail's resident beekeeper and learn about bees, free
