Another weekend full of holiday merriment ahead! Here are my picks!

  • November 25-December 27 It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Metropolis, Arlington Heights, $30 per person, $15 per student, see website for more info
  • November 25-December 30 Festival of Lights Cosley Zoo Wheaton; 3PM-9PM, 20,000 twinkling lights transform the zoo with displays; Christmas tree sale as well; free; closed Christmas Eve and Christmas
  • Now - December 31 Age of the Dinosaurs Exhibit, Northbrook Court Mall, Northbrook, lifelike moving and roaring exhibits, hands-on fun, $6 pp, purchase tickets on Eventbrite, check times

Friday, December 9:
  • December 9-10 Santa's Workshop, Nature Center, Itasca, meet with Santa, take photos, work on crafts, cookies & hot chocolate available, free, 5:30PM-8PM Friday, 11AM-1:30PM Saturday
  • December 9-11 Make Your Own Glass Ornament or Window Sparkler, Patterson Glass Works, Mundelein, 10AM-4PM, first come, first serve basis, $25 pp

Saturday, December 10:
  • December 10 Free Showing of Elf, York Theatre, Elmhurst, 9:30AM, free elf hats for kids, Santa visit at Plaza at 11AM-1PM, free
  • December 10-11 Lego Train Show, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 9AM-4PM, a holiday tradition, will be collecting new, unwrapped gifts for Toys for Tots, free admission with $5 parking fee ***there is also a special party Saturday 6PM-8PM, see website for details and pricing***
  • December 10 Winter Fest, Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club, Hoffman Estates, 10AM-1PM, crafts, games, sleigh rides and more, free
  • December 10 Swapadventure Holiday Event, Belvidere Banquets, Elk Grove Village, 11AM-2PM, free admission with 1 book, toy or clothing item to donate, princess visits, Santa, craft, music and more, first 100 kids receive a gift
  • December 10 Santa's Secret Work Shop at Wilder Manson, Elmhurst, 1PM-4PM, a place where the kids can shop for low cost gifts for moms, dads, grandparents, etc., recommended for kids 5-10
  • December 10 Homemade Holidays, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Arlington Heights, 1PM-3PM, make a homemade gift, project takes 20 minutes, while supplies last, free, drop in
  • December 10 Road Rallye Christmas Lights Tour in Schaumburg; by the Wheels Rallye Team in Schaumburg, registration starts at 6PM at Woodfield near Firestone (see website for deets), $10 per car & unwrapped new toy worth $15 or more for Toys For Tots or $25 cash, course will take you through some of the best home and municipal light displays in the suburbs, cars head out at 7PM *cars can be in sightseeing mode!* beginner school at 6:45PM
  • December 10 Borne2Dance Christmas Recital, Cutting Hall Palatine, 6:30PM, several music performances, along with tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical and jazz funk pieces, $15 pp

  • December 11 Great Midwest Train Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, 9AM-3PM, exhibitors, model railroads to view, trains for kids to run, $7/adult, kids under 12 are free
  • December 11 Christmas Past, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland, 11AM-3PM, celebrate with homemade toys, chestnuts roasting, popcorn and more, make a craft to take home, free
  • December 11 Wonderland's Ice Sculpting, Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM-2PM, watch live ice sculpting, $30 parking per car at garden, see above about info on Wonderland Express and tickets
