The Happ Inn Bar and Grill in Northfield, IL

Last week, my husband and I explored a new to us dining option -- The Happ Inn Bar and Grill in Northfield, Illinois. The peppy exterior already lightened our mood even before entering the neighborhood eatery. The interior is casual and welcoming -- just the place where you will be comfortable relaxing for awhile with family or friends!

We quickly settled in and started perusing the menu. The menu includes a wide selection of starters, shareable sides, salads, soups, burgers and specialties. The Happ Inn also has a separate dinner menu and catering menu. So much to choose from! While considering our lunch choices, we ordered some of Freddy's Famous Guacamole. Freddy's guacamole truly is famous and one of the favorite items on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it is a great menu item not only for starting a meal but if you want to stop in for drinks and a snack.

For lunch, my husband ordered a sandwich, salad, soup combo. For something seemingly simple, the presentation of his meal was artful. We loved that you could get all three items together -- often you can only choose two. He enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich, tortilla soup and Greek salad. A great meal allowing you to have a little bit of everything.

I ordered the Falafel and Black Bean Burger. Initially, I had intended to try a different burger but upon reviewing the ingredients of the Falafel and Black Bean Burger, I changed my mind. Entirely intriguing!  The burger was piled high with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, onion and tzatziki sauce -- yes, tzatziki sauce! I also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. I always love that option! The burger was definitely larger than I expected. I did not quite know how the tzatziki sauce would work but it really did work for the burger. The burger was enormous -- worthy of a cut in half! I really enjoyed it and would order it again.

For dessert, we savored a tres leches cake and cappuccino chip ice cream. The tres leches cake was incredibly moist and delicious. The cappuccino chip ice cream was a much needed treat on a hot day!

Everything at The Happ Inn is made from scratch at the restaurant except the bread and the ice cream, I was absolutely thrilled to learn that the ice cream is Homer's which is made in Illinois. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was warm and fun -- so a real find for families! Everyone is HAPPy at The Happ Inn!
