Wednesday Weekend Windup {Holiday Lights, Owls, Crafts & More}

I was sick for over a  month this fall, so it is sure difficult to wrap my head around the holiday season being here. The good news is that there are a lot of activities and fun to be had! Here are my picks for this weekend:
Ongoing:
  • Ongoing: Illumination at Morton Arboretum in Lisle; November 17-January 1; a light show in the trees, interactive displays and more, check website for more description on prices and times, purchase tickets in advance
  • Ongoing: Dickens Holiday Village and Kringle's Christmas Village Tour in Antioch November 4-December 25; over 50 handcrafted Dickens character will be featured around town, free walking tour available, special events select Saturdays, Kringle's Christmas Village shadowboxes also decorate the town
Friday, November 17:

  • November 18 Salt Creek Craft Fair, Sportscenter, Palatine, 9:30AM-2PM
  • November 18 Lapidary Day, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, Elmhurst, 10AM-4PM, lapidary art demos, hands-on fun, bring your rocks to identify, see the museum, free admission
  • November 18-19 Christmas at the Mill, Graue Mill, Oak Brook, 11AM-5PM, shop the holiday fair featuring handmade gifts and decorations, free admission
  • November 18 Holly Days, Knupper's Nursery, Palatine, 1PM-3PM, meet Santa, Sugar Plum Fairies, live reindeer
  • November 18 Owl Extravaganza, Fullersburg Woods, 2pm-4pm, hike with owl experts, live encounters, tours every 20 minutes, for ages 2 and up, $10, must register
  • November 18 Tree Lighting, Jelly Belly, Pleasant Prairie, 5:30PM-8:00PM, train tour, free samples, face painting, meet Santa & Mrs. Claus, free
Sunday, November 19:
  • November 19 Settlers' Day, Sandridge, South Holland, 10AM-3PM, costumed interpreters, history hikes, crafts and more, free admission but will be accepting food pantry donations
  • November 19 Thanksgiving for Nature Scavenger Hunt, Ryerson, Deerfield, 1PM-3PM, free but registration recommended
  • November 19 Nocturnal Hunters - Owls, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, learn about the adaptations that make owls fascinating, free
  • November 19 Family Movie Day, Christie's Dairy Delights, Palatine, 4PM-6:20PM, showing Beauty and the Beast, enjoy beverages & ice cream treats, raffles for sweet treats, come in your costume for 20% off of your order
