Holiday Lights at Lilacia Park

Lots of family fun this weekend in the Chicago suburbs. Here are my picks:
  • November 30-January 8 Christmas on the Farm and Life by Lamplight Farm House Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, Thursdays-Mondays, see times. The farm house will be decorated for the holidays and full of aromas of holiday treats baked in a wood stove. Learn the origins of holiday traditions and more. Free.
  • Ongoing: Illumination at Morton Arboretum in Lisle; November 17-January 1; a light show in the trees, interactive displays and more, check website for more description on prices and times, purchase tickets in advance
  • Ongoing: Dickens Holiday Village and Kringle's Christmas Village Tour in Antioch November 4-December 25; over 50 handcrafted Dickens character will be featured around town, free walking tour available, special events select Saturdays, Kringle's Christmas Village shadowboxes also decorate the town
  • Ongoing: Festival of Lights Cosley Zoo Wheaton; November 24-December 31 3PM-9PM, 20,000 twinkling lights transform the zoo with displays; Christmas tree sale as well; free; closed Christmas Eve and Christmas; check website for specific times (closed days), free but donations appreciated
  • Ongoing: Holiday Festival of Lights, Phillip's Park Zoo, Aurora, drive-thru display, November 24-December 26, Sun-Thurs 5PM-9PM, Fri-Sat 5PM-10PM, free!
  • Ongoing: Holiday Lights Lilacia Park, Lombard, December 2-28, check for special events like train rides, etc., lighting ceremony is Dec 2 5:30PM, Dec 4-18 6PM-8PM, Santa visits on weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun)
  • Ongoing: North School Park, Arlington Heights, November 24-early January (per Village), free!
  • Ongoing: Naper Lights, Naper Settlement, November 24-December 23, Thursdays-Sundays, 4:30PM-7PM, Thursday, 4:30PM-9PM Friday&Saturday, 4:30PM-6PM Sundays, December 18-21 every day 5PM-8PM, free!
  • Ongoing: Rosemont Holiday Lights: Holiday Light Displays including 80,000 lights in Rosemont, November 24-January 4, daily, free, plus enjoy free ice skating (fee for rental)
  • Ongoing: Carol Stream Holiday Light Contest, judged on December 18, follow map to see lights
Thursday, December 14:
  • December 14-December 17 The Grove Holiday Store, The Grove, 10AM-5PM, shop for holiday crafts in the Kennicott House, free admission

  • December 16 Bird Tales Story Hour, Wildbird Shack, Mount Prospect, 10:30AM-11:30AM, The fun event will be hosted with The Mount Prospect Public Library here at the store. Enjoy some bird tales, a craft and refreshments as we celebrate the holidays! 
  • December 16 Sleigh Rides, Ice Sculptures and Santa, Elmhurst, 11AM-2PM, free
  • December 16 Hometown Holiday Block Party, Elmhurst, 4PM-8PM, DJ, train rides and more, free
  • December 16 Solstice Bonfire, Camp Dan Beard, Northbrook, 4PM-8PM, bonfire, s'mores, food truck, parking at Potawatomi Woods -- shuttle available, free
Sunday, December 17:
  • December 17 The Science of Snow, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, learn about how snow forms, how it can keep you warm and more, indoor & outdoor activities, family event, must register: 847-381-6592
  • December 17 Holiday Exhibition, Oakton Ice Arena, Park Ridge, 4:40PM-8:00PM, holiday themed ice skating show
