Wednesday Weekend Windup {Snow Sculpting, Hot Cocoa and More}


A little late, but here are my family fun picks for the weekend in the Chicago suburban area:

Ongoing:
  • January 13-February 19 Enchanted Railroad at The Morton Arboretum:The Morton Arboretum in Lisle will be hosting its annual Enchanted Railroad event. The display is quite intricate and families will enjoy picking out a variety of miniatures. Free with regular Arboretum admission
February 1: 
  • February 1-4 Groundhog Day events in Woodstock -- filming location tours for Groundhog Day, movie screenings, chainsaw carving, groundhog prognostication and more

February 2:
February 3:
  • February 3 Dog Admission Day, Morton Arboretum, 7AM-sunset, normal admission applies plus $5 per dog, cannot walk in certain areas, more information on website
  • February 3 Nature Discovery Day, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 10AM-12PM, visit nature classrooms, crafts, view live animals, enjoy a roasted marshmallow and more, free
  • February 3 Wonders of Winter, Mayslake Peabody Estate, Oak Brook, 10AM-1PM, horse-drawn hayrides, ice fishing, geocaching, nature activities and more, free admission, small fees for some activities
  • February 3 Long Grove Cocoa Crawl, 12PM-4PM, 19 plus businesses serving something cocoa related, pick up map at Visitor's Center, free
  • February 3 Ground Hog's Day, Crabtree, Barrington, 1PM, learn about groundhogs and the history behind the day, crafts, free
  • February 3 Winter Carnival at Sunset Knoll, Lombard, 1:30PM-4:00PM, hot cocoa, games, crafts and more, indoor/outdoor event, free
  • February 3 Winter Fest, Lake Katherine, Palos Heights, 12PM-4PM, hayrides, animals, children's crafts and more, $5 pp
