It still may look like the picture above outside, but it doesn't mean that there isn't some spring fun to be had this weekend! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend in the Chicago suburbs:
Ongoing:
  • March 17 - June 3 Simply Spring Butterfly Exhibit, Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, enjoy butterflies flying freely in the conservatory, witness all of the butterfly life cycle, $6 resident, $8 non, $4 and $6 for seniors, kids 5-17 and veterans, Ages 3-4 $2, under 3 free, check website for times. ***Tropical Tuesdays Admission is $3.**
  • Through April 8 PEEPS Art Exhibition, Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI see blog post, closed Easter and Monday
Saturday, April 7:
  • April 7 Free Spring Family Fun Day, Elmhurst, watch The Peanuts Movie free at Yorke Theatre at 9:30AM, meet snoopy, DJ, dancing and prizes, free
  • April 7-8 Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, Stevenson Center, Rosemont, learn about what it takes to be a hero, get insight into favorite shows and more, check website for ticket and event info
  • April 7 Nature Playdate, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 10AM-11:30AM, learn about nature, participate in a nature activity, take a self guided hike, free
  • April 7 Brookfield Zoo Goes Blue for Autism Awareness, 10AM-6PM, details: "Brookfield Zoo is once again taking part in the annual Zoos Go Blue campaign on Saturday, April 7! To commemorate the day, the zoo’s iconic lion statues will be clothed in blue scarves, blue flags will decorate the park’s grounds, and special inclusive activities and animal Zoo Chats will take place. Join us for this fun-filled day of low sensory events around the zoo!   • April 7 Springtime on the Farm, Primrose Farm, St. Charles, 12PM-4PM, shell corn, prepare butter, meet new animals and more, free but they ask that you register
Sunday, April 8:
  • April 8  Great Midwest Train Show, DuPage County Fairgrounds, 9AM-3PM, exhibitors, model railroads to view, trains for kids to run, $7/adult, kids under 12 are free
  • April 8 Annual Barrington Family Expo, Barrington High School, 11AM-3PM, vendors, art fair, kids activities, food and refreshments, free admission
  • April 8 Life on the Farm Tours, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 11AM-4PM, free
  • April 8 GPS Scavenger Hunt, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 12PM-2PM, free, use your GPS or borrow one to find hidden treasures (equipt limited)
