Military Through the Ages at Cantigny Park is one of many weekend events July 26-29 in the Chicago Suburbs

The weekend is almost here! Here are my picks in the Chicago suburbs to look forward to:


Ongoing:

  • May 19-Sept 15 Butterfly House, Peck Farm, Geneva, 9AM-5PM Mon-Sat, Sun 12PM-5PM, closed Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, suggested donation, $2 pp or $5 per family
  • July 7-September 3 Saturdays and Sundays plus Labor Day -- The Bristol Renaissance Faire
  • June 22-???? Troll Hunt at The Morton Arboretum -- see large scale trolls being made from reclaimed wood. Free with admission.

  • July 28-29 Military Through the Ages, Cantigny Park, Wheaton, 10AM-4PM, reenactment encampment 
  • July 28 Dragonboat Races, Busse Woods, Elk Grove Village, 9AM-4PM, cultural performances 11AM-1:30PM, beer garden, vendors and racing!, free admission
  • July 28-29 Geneva Arts Fair
  • July 28-29 Puerto Rican Heritage Festival, Aurora, see schedule, $5 pp, kids under 5 have free admission
  • July 28 Afternoon of Magic in Downtown Naperville, 3PM-7PM, all sorts of magic themed events and participating locations, some small fees, see schedule, the Naperville Public Library will start earlier with a day of Harry Potter starting at 10AM
  • July 28 German Beer Garden, Schaumburg, Volkening Heritage Farm, 4PM-7PM (last call 7PM, $5 pp, children ages 3 and under are free, pretzels are free with admission, beer and soda for purchase, bring a picnic, German music and entertainment
  • July 28 Brothers Grimm Woodland Tales, Walking Play, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 6PM, $15/member adult, $20/nonmember, $10/$15 for kids, can purchase ticket online
Sunday, July 29:
  • July 29 International Bog Day, Volo Bog, Ingleside, 12PM-4PM, bog tours, kids bog crafts, art show and live music, suggested donation $5 per adult, $3 per child
  • July 29 Wolves Visit Lords Park Zoo, Elgin, 12:30PM-2:30PM, meet wolves from Big Run Wolf Ranch as well as more animals, free
  • July 29 Catching Dragonflies and Damselflies, Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 1PM, free, learn about dragonflies and damselflies and practice your catch and release skills
