Family Fun in the Chicago Suburbs September 28-30, 2018

Chicago Suburban weekend fun ahead! Fall weekends are some of the best around here. Looking towards this weekend, we have a Farm Stroll, Plein Air Art, Johnny Appleseed, Barkapalooza, Oktoberfests and so much more! Here are my picks for family fun this weekend:

  • September 29 Johnny Appleseed Festival, Crystal Lake, 9AM-4PM, apple ride, wagon ride, pumpkin train, cider press, storytelling, craft fair, stilt walking scarecrow, Johnny Appleseed and much more
  • September 29-30 Highwood Starving Artist Show
  • September 29 Celebration of Cultures, Kopp Park, Mount Prospect, 11AM-7PM, ethnic activities, entertainment, kids activities, crafts and more, free admission
  • September 29-30 Harvest Weekend, Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM-4PM, Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden, kids activities, demos, local vendors, Garden Chef demo and more, see how brooms are made, free admission, parking is $30 per car
  • September 29 Free Trail Walk, Fuller Air Station, Glenview, 11AM
  • September 29 Party for the Preserves Deer Grove -- A full day of fun enjoying Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine and celebrating nature from a morning birdwalk to stargazing in the evening and everything in between, 1PM-9PM
  • September 29-30 Lynfred Oktoberfest and Grape Stomp -- Oktoberfest at Lynfred Winery in Roselle means grape stomping, seed spitting, a pig roast, German sing-a-longs and more.
  • September 29 Oktoberfest, Heritage Park, Wheeling, 3:00PM-8PM, food, beer, music and merriment, free admission
Sunday, September 30:
  • September 30 Barkapalooza, Lisle Community Park, 10AM-4PM, pet agility, rescue dog parade, blessing of pets and more, funds go to benefit West Suburban Humane Society
  • September 30 Farm Stroll, McHenry County, 10AM-4PM, opportunity to explore 12 different farms in McHenry County, pick and choose from the 12 designated
  • September 30 The Hills Are Alive Fall Festival, Barrington Hill Park District Riding Center, 11AM-4PM, meet mini therapy horses, petting zoo, face painting, dunk tank, climbing wall, carictures, blacksmithing demo, live music and more, free admission but small fees for some activities
  • September 30 Deerfield Historical Society Jubilee and Fall Festival, Deerfield Historic Village, 11AM-3PM, building tours, period games, hands-on activities, food and entertainment, profits help restore buildings
  • September 30 Harvest of the Acorn Moon, Oakhurst, Aurora, 12PM-3PM, pumpkin painting, folk music, games, nature crafts, guided hikes, free
  • September 30 All-A-Buzz About Honey, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 1:30PM, meet the preserve's beekeeper and learn all about bees, free
  • September 30 Sugar Skull Decorating Workshop, Arlington Heights, Memorial Library, 2PM-4PM, free but must register, library card not required
