Fall Fun Chicago Suburbs

The weekend is on its way! There are plenty of fun festivals this weekend including Oktoberfest, butterfly fun, pioneer experiences, fall fests and more! Here are my picks for this weekend in the Chicago suburbs:
ROAD TRIP: Prairie Festival  September 15 at Nachusa Grasslands in Franklin Grove, IL -- look for the bison and more fun; 10AM-5PM, $5 parking

  • September 15 Arts and Crafts Adventure, Hodges Park, Park Ridge, 9AM-5PM, free admission
  • September 15-16 Cary Main Street Fest
  • September 15 Green Fair DuPage County Fairgrounds, 10AM-3PM
  • September 15 Autumn Festival Peck Farm, Peck Farm, Geneva, 11AM-3PM, birds of prey, petting zoo, hayrides, crafts, games, hawks hollow, butterfly house and more, free admission but small fee for some activities
  • September 15 Super Saturday Destination Dance, Mount Prospect Public Library, 11AM-12:00PM, learn a step or two from Dancing with Class, see the “La Cajeta” from Costa Rica and “Bollywood” from India and more, while sharing fun facts on each location’s climate, culture, and food, free but must register
  • September 15&16 Lisle Depot Days, The Museums at Lisle Station Park, Lisle, 12PM-5PM, historic demos, hands-on activities, petting farm, model train layout, historic buildings & autos,Civil War medicine unit interpreters, lots more, free admission
  • September 15-16 Fall Fest, Des Plaines, 12-7PM, variety of activities, see schedule
  • September 15 World Migratory Bird Day at McHenry Dam, McHenry, 12PM-3:30PM, live hawks, activities, learn how to use binoculars and more, free
  • September 15 Birds of Prey, The Wildbird Shack, Mount Prospect, 1PM-2PM, River Trail Nature Center will be bringing Birds of Prey to visit The Wildbird Shack, the event will be fun and informative, free
  • September 15 Harvest Bonfire, Volkening Heritage Farm, Schaumburg, 6PM-8PM, roast marshmallows or hot dogs, enjoy lantern tour of barn or house, $7 pp, kids 3 and younger are free
Sunday, September 16:
  • September 16 Kite Fest, Lippold Lacrosse Fields, Crystal Lake, 10AM-2PM, build a kite or bring your own, pack a picnic lunch and a blanket,
  • September 16 Lake Katherine Monarch Festival, Palos Heights, 11AM-4:30PM, walk through the butterfly tent, arts and crafts, scarecrow making, food vendors, bring a reusuable water bottle to fill at water stations, $7 pp, free for kids two and under
  • September 16 Cornfest Graue Mill, Oakbrook, 11:30AM-4PM, family picnic featuring food, wood pile, music and more
  • September 16 Shermerfest, Shermer Road and Meadow Road, Northbrook, 12PM-4PM, balloon artist, music in the gazebo, train rides, hot dog or soup lunch, magic show at 3PM and more, free admission
  • September 16 Pioneer Day, Elk Grove Village Historical Museum, 1PM-4PM, petting zoo, crafts and games, historic demos and more, visitors can even make an elk-styled hobby horse for their front porch ($5 donation to Elk Grove Garden Club), tour farmhouse, local art, free admission
  • September 16 Beekeeping, Heller Nature Center, Highland Park, 1PM-2:30PM, $10 pp, must register, must wear long socks and closed toe shoes to get near the hives, kids with paid adult, will be given beekeeper suit
