Pumpkins, Halloween and Crocodiles -- Oh My!

Fall is here! There are plenty of fall festive and Halloween events to enjoy this weekend. Oh-- and there are crocodiles too!



Friday, October 19:

  • October 19 & 20 Halloween Hikes, Ryerson, Riverwoods, variety of times in the evening, must register, candlelit path, nature themed skits, cider and donuts in a cabin, $9 resident, $11 non, kids 3 and under free
Saturday, October 20:
  • October 20 & 21 Corn Harvest, Kline Creek Farm, West Chicago, 10AM-4PM, help walk the fields to pick the corn, shock the stalks, fill the corn cribs, make a corn husk doll, free
  • October 20 Living Cemetery, Downers Grove, 10AM-12PM, reenactors interpret local history, Main Street Cemetery
  • October 20 Spooky Pooch Parade, Chicago Botanic Garden, 11AM-1PM, see ticket information
  • October 20 Palatine Plaza Fall Fest, 11AM-3PM, trick-or-treat, police and fire trucks, obstacle course, kids can come in costume, more, free
  • October 20 & 21 Pumpkin Weekends, Blackberry Farm, Aurora, 11AM-4PM, seasonal crafts, corn crib, trick-or-treating and more, $7 pp
  • October 20 Randhurst Village Fall Fest, Mount Prospect, 1PM-4PM, costume parade, decorate pumpkins, create your own hat, bouncy house, owls from Stillman Nature Center and more, free admission, you can register for the parade online
  • October 20 -21 Walking Plays The Grimmest of Ghost Tales, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, 3:00PM, $20 per adult, $15 per child
  • October 20 Waukegan Zombie Wauk, 5PM-10PM, free
  • October 20 All Hallow's Eve Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 4PM-8PM, TnT paranormal investigators, storytellers, kids crafts, costume parade (Lights on portion 4PM-6PM), Lights off 6PM-8PM with Radio Players, campfire, spooky stories and more, $10 pp at the door, $6 if registered online
  • October 20 Jammin' Around the Campfire, Vera Meineke Nature Center, Schaumburg,  6PM-8PM, free, songs, stories, s'mores and marshmallows
Sunday, October 21:
  • October 21 Fall Festival, River Trail Nature Center, Northbrook, 10AM-3PM, hayrides, honey, storytelling, beekeeping and more, free admission but small fee or food donation for some activities, see website
  • October 21 Chicago and Railroadiana Model Train Show and Sale, Kane County Fairgrounds, St. Charles, 10AM-3PM, $6 pp, kids 12 and under are free
  • October 21 Croctoberfest, Wildlife Discovery Center, Lake Forest, 10AM-3PM, visit with discovery center residents, all sorts of family activities, $10 pp donation, kids 3 and under free
  • October 21 Volo Bog Fall Color Walk, McHenry, 1:30PM-2:45PM, free

Troll Hunt at The Morton Arboretum -- see large scale trolls being made from reclaimed wood. Free with admission.
